Direct TV DVR with Traveler SWM

Thinking of replacing one of my DTV HD receivers in coach with the HDDVR receiver. Since the DVR requires a second coax from the dish, with the SWM set up do I just add a second coax from the splitter to the second input on the DVR?

With the SWM system only one cable is needed for the new Genie DVR receiver that can record 5 programs the same time. And they only have 1 input anyway.

Same when used with the older 2 input HD DVR's only one cable input needed from the splitter.
On the older DVR make sure in set up, that 2 turners are selected.

In my MH I have a Genie HR34, HR23 and a H25 on SWM.

SWM stands for Single Wire Multiswitch. There is only one wire to each DVR. The SWM allows the signals to be stacked. A SWM-8 can connect up to 8 receivers/DVRs.

Note: Yyou must have a DVR that is compatible with SWM. See more info on SWM and a list of receivers and DVRs HERE. "H" in the list of receivers indicates HD and "R" indicates DVR.

You may need to add a power supply to use the new swm dish...

Just connect your DirecTV DVR to the same coax connection your current receiver uses. Just be sure to connect it to the "Tuner 1 SWM" connection on the DVR.

As stated before with SWM up to 8 tuners can be connected to the same coax. A standard HD DVR has 2 tuners, the new Genie servers have 5. (This is why you cannot connect 2 Genie receivers to the same SWM line.)

All this is very simple with your existing configuration. Just connect it up and enjoy!

First things first. What antenna do you have? Winegard Travler SK-SWM is the one you need.
This antenna uses one RG-6 coax cable and one 5 wire control cable.
From the dish the first thing you need is a power supply, then a splitter, then the receiver. If you use a Genie and want to have sat in a second TV you have two choices. Wired or wireless. Wireless is really the way to go. To do that you will have a video bridge plus a mini Genie.

Don,
I think you need to read the heading on this thread. He already has a Traveler SWM dish that is already driving his HD receiver. The OP has everything he needs. He just does not realize that it only takes one coax connector to his HD DVR (which has two terminals for two tuners).

You obviously have no idea how DirecTV works. Had you said DirecTV does not offer any HD programming on sat 101 you would have been correct. But, as Triker56 notes, HD programming is provided on sats 99 and 103 (which is why you need a slimline dish and a 3-LNB head to get HD reception). The OP's SWM Travler is a slimline dish setup.
