Direct TV Power Inserter plus HR54

We have the HR54 receiver from home in our RV. We are having intermittent strange problems like 'signal loss' messages on the HR54 but the picture is still there and looking fine. We will get that message only at night and never on the other H24-100 receiver.

I've read that if the LNB is not getting sufficient voltage, signal problems can occur. I am wondering if the many connections in this 5th wheel might be the issue. I've tightened all that I can find.

Can I install the power inserter without issue even though the HR54 is also sending power to the LNB?

Adding a power inserter should not cause any issues- it may or may not solve the problem. Are you sure that one of your HR54 tuners is not tuned to a channel you do not receive?

You shouldn't need a separate Power Inserter with the HR54 since it's built in.

How long is your coax cable?
How are you feeding the two boxes?
Have you checked your satellite signal readings?

With my Genie HR44 that's the usual reasons I get that message. If I go back through the Guide I'll find that there's a recording scheduled that, for some reason, is on a channel that was not being received.

For example, while we were in Canada this summer we often couldn't get our HD DNS channels because of weather and the low-angle path to the satellite. When that would occur we would get that message on screen warning us about signal loss.

Thanks for the suggestions. I have 40' of coax to dish. Both receivers are connected directly to the SWM splitter. I get 98% on the 101 but 84% or less on the other two. I think the dish needs fine tuning (dithering). When we were here in our motorhome with the RF Mogul dish, we got our locals from Virginia. Only get the locals intermittently with my fixed dish.

Now that we are permanent, I'm going to move dish to pole set in concrete and get Direct out here to fine tune dish.
