We purchased a 2004 Diplomat two week ago and we had a King Dome installed on our coach. We are currently using a Bell ExpressVU receiver and getting a good signal however we start losing channels the further south we travel in the US. We spent the past winter in Palm Springs and had very limited channel availability given ExpressVu's not wanting to provide signals into the US.

We have had our fill of ExpressVu as we spend about 5 to 6 months of the year in the southwest part of the US and want a full service provider. We have decided that we would like to get the Direct TV.

My questions are, can we have an installer provide us with the Direct receiver if we are in an RV park? I'm thinking that we just need a home receiver not the RV service? We have a credit card assigned to a US address. I guess that I will have to have something done to the King Dome to change the reception from ExpressVu to Direct?

Thanks for any help.

You can have an installer put a DirecTV receiver in your RV since there is no such thing as an RV receiver. All the DTV/Dish Network/Bell ExpressVu receivers are the same no matter where you put them.
As long as you have a US address and credit card with a US address then the installer can get you going. You should also be able to run down to the local Best Buy and pick up a receiver and install it yourself.
I believe the King Dome manual has the information for changing the system to pick up the DTV signal. If not, a call to King Dome will get that resolved as well. If you have a Trac-King in-motion antenna you just need to change the satellite selection to the 101 satellite and you are in business.

Hi I am Canadian and enquired about a Direct TV receiver and service. Mu dome will not work with Direct TV I was told. Also they require a US social security number to give you service. This was in Yuma AZ that I enquired. Others may have different information.

I am not aware of any US made domed antenna that will not work with DirecTV. What do you have?
I could be mistaken about the Canadian service options but there sure are a lot of Canadians using the DTV service. I have not heard of the SS requirement so maybe some other Canadians can chime in for clarification.

I've heard the same thing about the SS# requirement. And, in fact, when we got our two DirecTV receivers, we had to give them our SS#, despite my protests...no SS#, no service, was what we were told. I don't know how Canadians get around that requirement.

As for the KingDome, there should be instructions in your Owner's Manual on how to change from one service to another (on our Winegard Movin' View, you just need to take the cover off and reset a few switches for whatever service you want to use). Or give KingDome a call to find out.
