never had DTV but we've had DISH for 50-years now. very RV friendly, EZ to change locals, reasonably good tech support. nothing is perfect. we no longer have HBO but since AT&T owns DTV it's not surprising. we like it.

I have been with DirecTV for nearly 11 years and am dumping them for Dish after the first of the year. Their customer service went missing after the AT&T acquisition and has yet to be found.

I've heard you can only get Hi-Def with Dish while in-motion. Plus they're more RV friendly.

Dish is far better for RV use.

We switched from DTV to Dish about a year ago. Got more channels and better equipment for about $30 per month less money!

Not sure what you are saying here. I get HD while sitting still as long as I am "looking" at the correct satellite for the area you are in.

we have a Winegard Trav'ler which can lock onto all three DISH birds simultaneously. i can assure you we are seeing high def. occasionally all we can get on locals are SD but othewise we get high def.

I will attempt to translate what I think he is saying.
While in-motion with a dome antenna you can only get Hi Def from Dish, not DirecTV. You can get HiDef from DirecTV with Trav'ler or RF Mogul but they can't be used in motion.

One point about Locals and HD. Dish Network moved some of the local HD broadcast to come from their Eastern Arc satellites (61.5°, 72.7°, and 77°) and SD on their Western Arc. birds (110°, 119°, and 129°). Then again, some local stations can only be seen if you are looking at the Eastern Arc satellites.
If I can't get locals, I reset the portable dish to look at the opposite arc and many times I'll get the stations.

No messing with east and west satellites with DirecTV. One set of satellites for everywhere. And HD available everywhere on all stations.

For me it is about the content. DW and I love football and only DirecTV has the NFL package so we have DTV at home. We simply take the receivers from the sticks and bricks with us when we travel. Dish's program of paying by the month is of no value for our situation and I don't want to deal with two providers. I agree with all who say that DirecTV's customer service is terrible but I don't normally need them. I'll stay with them until they lose the exclusive rights to the NFL package.
