DirectTV Receiver to 2 TV's

Just finished installing a new traveler SK-SWM3 dish. I have a HR24 receiver.
I want to power 2 TV's off 1 receiver 1-TV has a HWMI port, the other TV just has a coax input. Do they make a splitter with HWMI in with coax out ?

I use my Genie to 3 TV's through a HDMI switch.

Sounds like that old outdated coax input TV needs replaced with a bigger newer Smart HD one.

Read this about HDMI to coax

I've never done that, but a search on Amazon for "HDMI to coax converter" yielded these products.

That HDMI to RCA looks interesting. Does your TV have RCA input?

we have the hr24. you can add a wireless bridge to the swm coax going into it and then a mini genie receiver to the second tv. it allows you to watch both TV's at he same time, each with their own channel. no cabling required as it is wireless.

Why as it happens yes they do make an HDMI to Coax converter, it sells for just over 1,000 dollars.

Bob, We use an inexpensive RCA to coax converter we bought off Amazon and it works just fine. With the coax, you will have standard definition on the back TV but it looks just fine to us. We have the same dish and receiver you have. The front TV is connected via HDMI cable. Good luck. Chuck

Ah, not really. The HR24 is NOT a Genie server. I have never heard of someone attaching a Mini-Genie to an HR24.

your system is entirely different than what the OP has and asked about

so not apples to apples so to speak and even your system is not wireless as u need a HDMI cable from the genie to the TV
he has no such TV that allows for this connection

I don't think you need to pay quite that much, but you need to understand exactly what you are buying. Otherwise you are going to buy something that isn't going to do what you want.

There's a big difference between converting the digital HDMI signal to RF and sending it down a coax so that it can go into the tuner of a TV compared to simply using the coax as a "wire" that will enable you to pass HDMI along it and get it "back" at the other end of the coax.

Here's a fairly inexpensive device that will do the latter. HDMI to Coax It would permit you to take the HDMI signal and send it over the existing coax. At the other TV the signal would be "converted" back into HDMI for the second TV. But, the coax signal is NOT suitable for connection to a TV.

However, since you have an older 2nd TV this won't solve your problem unless you buy a new one (which might not be such an unreasonable approach).

Alternatively, you can take the RCA outputs (red/white/yellow) from the HR24 (I believe it has those) and buy a modulator which will convert them into RF to send down the coax. This would be only an SD signal, but, if you don't care, it would be an inexpensive solution. Here's a very inexpensive modulator that would do this: https://smile.amazon.com/RCA-Compact...s=rf+modulator

I've been trying to get the HR24 to work with a wireless bridge with no success. Can you point me to some guidance?

The ONLY guidance anyone can give you is that it does not work. Wireless bridges only work with Genie (HR34, HR44 and HR54) "servers". The HR24 was never designed to function in this capacity.

Some of the confusion probably comes from the fact that there is a "Wireless Cinema Connection Kit" as well as a "Wireless Bridge". These two are totally different units with totally different functionalities. The "Wireless Cinema Connection Kit" links a DirecTV system's coax wiring to your home's internet service. The "Wireless Bridge" links Genie-minis to the host server.

One note on docj's post: If you try the HDMI to coax route you will probably find that you have a splitter that allows another TV in the basement that will interfere with this option. (Basement outlets are a very popular addition on most motorhomes.) Click on the link he provided and you will see it clearly stated that that unit will not work if you have a splitter in the line. So, you will have to remove that splitter if you want to go this direction.

TexasTom, As I said in a previous post, the RCA to coax converter will easily do what you want, only you will have Standard Definition. It will not matter whether you have splitters or anything else in the line. You will only be able to watch one channel at a time with the HR24. The HR24 does not work with a Genie, wireless bridge or anything else. You can set up a Whole Home system but you will need another receiver. Other options are to run a new RCA or HDMI cable from the HR24 to the second TV. Those are your options. Chuck

Thanks, we are running the coax to the second TV, but would prefer HD, so going to switch to the Genie server DVR.
