DirecTV setup problems

When I take the R21/100 receiver (SD) from the stick house to use in the MH I can't get the setup to work properly. The stick house has a Slimline 5 w/72.5 antenna with a multiswitch. My MH has the Winegard RM-DM46 manual sat antenna with digital readout. During the setup, every time I select the 18" round dish, I lose the +12VDC to the antenna and then cannot find the signal. If I leave the setup as the Slimline 5 etc, the antenna is powered and I can get a 97% signal strength. Eventually, the system completes the download and everything works. Our local satellite provider isn't any help, they said if it works, don't worry about it.

Any ideas about why this thing doesn't work like I think it should?

I guess I'm not seeing the problem. If everything works, why worry about whether or not it works the way you think it should...it works!

Thanks for your response. I see that 70 folks have looked at this post and must have come to the same conclusion that you did, if it works, why worry about it. I was hoping that one of the "techies" that understands the details of the setup would reply.

Generally, I can accept the fact that I won't ever know the details of how some things work; the chemistry of concrete curing and paint drying are a couple of examples, maybe this will have to be a similar situation.

Thanks again!
