Dish Antenna Problems

I have a 2017 Entegra Anthem. We bought it as a second owner. We had Dish come out and install a Hopper Sling, Joey3, and wifi Joey to run the 4 TV's. And they work perfectly on the temporary Dish they set up. Apparently the Winegard / Dish fold down antenna on the roof doesn't work. The tech had it raised and spinning around but said it was shot and wouldn't work. He said it needed to be replaced. I'm looking for suggestions as to what the best replacement for it would be.

First off, Welcome to iRV2!

I would contact Winegard as they have been very responsive to me in the past. It could be the LNB or controller needs to be replaced, but they may be able to walk you through some troubleshooting steps. If it needs repair, they will want you to ship it to them for service. Depending on the location of the antenna on the roof, replacing it with another Winegard may be the only option. The other triple LNB antenna similar to it is the RF Mogul. The problem with changing to that is it requires a different controller wire than the Winegard and you may not be able to change that out like I could not when I had to replace our Trav'ler. From what I understand, the new Trav'ler Pro is more user serviceable than the older Trav'lers so that might be an option.

There could be a number of issues and the Dish installer will not have a clue. The Travl'r uses the Dish Western Arc and the temp dish may be set up on the Eastern Arc. Also are you sure this is for Dish and not DirecTV? Turn off the Receiver and unplug it when changing over. Are there any trees blocking the Winegard dish? And yes, you need to call Winegard for troubleshooting.

And if this is a 2017 vintage, there should be no way it has "worn out". Chuck

There's several things it could be:

1. The Winegard system on the roof might be set up for DirecTV rather than Dish.
You may be able to figure that out by turning on it's control box and looking
at the startup screen. If that's the case there is a conversion kit Winegard
sells that changes the reflector and LNB from DirecTV to Dish that can be
installed to change it, it used to be a bit pricey. Note that the conversion kit
may not make it compatible with Hopper 3, at least in the past it did not.

2. 2017 Vintage Winegard system won't work with a Hopper 3 without a
modification.

There are threads on IRV2 on how to make it work.
I don't have the links handy.
You should be able to search Hopper or Hopper3 and find them.

If you can power on the control box and it searches and
locks to 110 * 119 * 129 * then this is likely the case.

Note if you can get this far and know someone with a Dish Wally
that would be willing to let you try it it would likely work,
without modification the Trav'ler is compatible with Wally.

The modification to make compatible with Hopper 3
is not too difficult, uses less than $ 100
worth of parts and it still also works with Wally afterward.

Look for the control box and see if there is an error on the display. The behavior you are describing could be due to bad coax cables between the LNB and the base of the antenna. I’ve had to replace my twice.
