Dish Network IT Outage

We are currently in day 3 of a Dish Network IT outage. All their websites are down, as well as their phone systems. There is no way to contact Dish customer support. In fact, there are news reports that their customer support employees have been told to stay home, and to not use their computers if they had been "in the building" the past couple of days. Some reporting speculates that Dish may be the target of a ransomware attack.

Customers are unable to pay their bills online, or even over the phone. Customers with service problems are not able contact anyone at Dish to have the issues resolved. We have a Dish Outdoors account, and usually update our local channels via the Dish app on our phones when we travel. It's also down, so we can't get local channels where we are parked now.

If this is in fact a cyber attack, I am concerned that a data breach may expose customer information, including credit card numbers. I am going to be keeping a close watch on my credit card activity. If you are a Dish customer, you may also want to monitor yours. Dish is not being very helpful by staying silent on what is going on.

If you have your monitoring set up properly with each card you hardly have to watch it all. Any time there is a charge on my cards and the card is not present I get a text message. I also have it set up so any purchase over $500 generates a message too. You can set that number to anything you want.

i have my alerts set up for any transaction that occurs on our cards. most of the time the phone beeps the alert while i am still at the register. it's not a problem and if i ever get the alert for a transaction that i am unfamiliar with i'll be on the phone to investigate immediately.

there's way to much fraud out there and the more proactive you can be to identify it as soon as possible that bettr you will be.

Now into day 4 of the outage. Still no customer service. Seems to be a major problem at Dish Network.

Yep, spent a lot of time installing my new winegard road trip dish. Went to register it and after calls to some independent dish retailers, I found out about the problem.

Parts of Dish are slowly coming back online after being down for five days.

Day 6 of outage. At least now Dish is admitting they've been hacked, and customer data may have been compromised. And although they say they are making progress on the customer service front every day, their online systems are still down.

Still down on 3/1 and cannot load the guide for locals channels. At least the last time we used Dish in the RV we loaded up Orlando so we have reasonable local channels in the state of Florida.
Looking like time to swap LNBs in the antenna for DirecTV.

If their IT infrastructure is so tattered they must be real noobs not worth subscribing to. Their local channel support was working quite well but now?

after doing on-line chat for an hour to change local zip code so i could get locals in Tulsa OK, they took information and send they can only submit ticket and someone on back side would work on it, after 2 days, still have not changed locals so may be a long trip without locals on Dish.

I'm not optimistic for a resolution any time soon. They are very quiet about it, and nothing is coming online that customers can use other than existing service. Note that Boost Mobile is also in trouble.
We have a trip coming up this Summer. While we can get locals OTA there are many places this Summer where that will not be an option.

We’re leaving Saturday for five weeks and I’m bummed about this. I busted my Dish antenna so I was planning to use Dish Anywhere. Nope :(
