Dish question
I purchased a new King Tailgater and Dish 211k receiver. Almost faultless. One problem, both HGTV and Food Network, DWs favorites, lock up and don't come in. Anyone else have this problem? All other stations work beautifully.

I don't have a King, I have a Winegard Mission. It must be left on to track the different satellites up in the air when changing channels (actually changing channels that are on different birds in the air). Food and HGTV are on Sat 119. I wonder if all the other channels you watch are on 110? May want to check that.

When you set up the dish, which satellites do you pick? Eastern or Western arc? I find here and in Tennessee the Eastern Sats work best. They are higher in the sky. AS you travel around the USA you may need to switch arc's.
Once you know which arc you are aiming at, on your remote select "Menu" then 611. This should show you the signal strength for the satellites. Go over to the Satellite column and highlight the 3 birds, one at a time. After a few seconds it should show you how strong the signal is, or if you even have a signal.
Eastern Arc the satellites are 61.5, 72, 77
The Western Arc they are 110, 119, 129
Could be the satellite you need to watch those channels isn't locked in because of a tree branch etc.

yes, we have the King Tailgater and Vip211k receivers - sometimes various HD channels will either take some time to come in, or will fail over to the SD version.
I don't know why, it's not often, but I found that if I change to another HD channel, then back to the problem channel, it will usually reset itself and show the channel. Other times when it fails over to SD, I change right back to the HD version, and then it comes in.
I don't know why it does this, and only on a select number of channels, but I can usually solve the issue with these techniques. If all else fails, I change to 'my channels' and select the SD version - tho watching SD is not my favorite!

Thanks all for the pointers. Miss N is happy now because she can watch her programs, SD is fine with her.
