Dishnet Customers with no Home Dish?

We are starting retirement in 45 days and will be full time. We will no longer have a home and a home dish account. We will have a new Home Base Address, but no physical dish there, only mailing address. I'll have both receivers in the coach and on the road. Is there others doing this and are there any problems?

I don't see why you will have a problem. We do have a stick home and whenever we leave we call Dish at new destination, tell them we have the receiver in the RV and give them the new address. Takes about 10 minutes to get the new local channels and programming guide. Same at our next stop and same when we get home. They know exactly what we are doing and respond quickly.

As for no home address, I'm sure your billing account is connected to a billing address, but that would not affect your service address.

We are fulltimers and use Dish. They have our SD billing address and every time we change location, we give them a call and change our location. We get the new local stations for that area in a few minutes.

Never really thought it was going to be a problem when we started fulltime and it hasn't been.

Agree with the other posts, as we have no stick home, but we have a PO Box billing address with Dish. We call them each time we enter a new state to provide a physical address to receive local programming. You might think once set why bother,. Well, the Dish satellite transmits tv signals in lobes of which the receiver knows which geographic lobe it is receiving. For example, if I am receiving Tampa, Florida locals then drive westbound, very likely as I reach Alabama my receiver will recognize that it is receiving signal from a different antenna lobe, possibly Mobile, Alabama and therefore it pops up a message saying 'Outside of Local Coverage Area, call Dish'. If calling Dish is a hassle, which I initially considered it to be, then using Direct TV may be your alternative, but the details to first consider with Direct TV are: First, Direct TV receivers cannot receive HD programming using a dome satellite antenna, whereas Dish Network receivers can, and our Winegard does so very nicely. Second, Dish no longer provides a Distant Network Services (DNS) programming which includes feeds of ABC, CBS, Fox and NBC from New York and Los Angeles, though Direct TV does and it costs $15 per month. Your choice, a little Pro and Con to consider. References: Direct TV see http://www.directv.com/DTVAPP/global...setId=P1400120, for Dish Network see http://www.satellitesolutions.com/di...network-tv.asp. The later weblike was not directly from the Dish website, but verbally confirmed to be factual according to a Dish Network Account Specialist just this evening. Happy travels!

Yep, it's a piece of cake as others have noted.

Your new mailing address becomes your Billing Address of which DISH could care less if it's not a physical address.

However, there is another address associated with your account -- Service Address which is basically the physical location of your receivers. As you travel across the country, you can call DISH and have them change your Service Address to the address of your current campground. When you do this, you'll be able to get the local TV stations in the area where you are camped.

You can also sign up for DNS (Distant Network Service) through mydistantnetworks.com. I signed up initially, but dropped the service because getting local TV stations by changing my Service Address was better and cheaper. I like getting local news and especially weather.

While DirecTV has a better deal with DNS (they are in HD while DISH's are not), DirecTV has no real counterpart to DISH's ability to change Service Address at will.

DISH has 'Dish for my RV' which is a monthly program (you buy the receivers) or you can get a standard Dish account but registered as an RV account, In either case you qualify for Distant Network Service" this means if you are oh, say 1,000 miles from your billing address.. Odds are you won't be getting local TV stations, but you can get LA or NYC or (i think) some other cities for a slight additional fee.

Dish may also tag on a 5.00/month "Access Fee". This is because since your receiver is NOT hooked to a phone line they can not access it and sell your viewing habits,, which by the way is illegal to do, but they still charge you for their not being able to do it.

But I did it, and may do it again some day... Others have done it as well.

Just now though I am parked in the land of fantastic OTA TV. so much so that I can't watch it all and am having to download all the movies off the DVR's (I have 2) and store them on a computer's hard drive for later viewing when in the land of "WHATs OTA TV" .. I have about 200 hours now stored and about a dozen more on the DVR's to move.

An alternative to switching Dish locals all the time is to use your antenna for local channels. If you use an OTA tuner (I use one with my ViP211z receiver, which is a popular choice for pay-as-you-go) then you will see programming scheduled in the program guide, just like the sat. channels (and record them as well, if you have enabled the DVR function.)

Of course this only works if you can receive most of the local channels off-the-air where you are situated, but more often than not you can.

I have had DirecTV for 13 years. I use the Winegard for the local stations. A couple of years ago, the wife was watching a Chick Flick on the big screen, so I had to watch the Super Bowl on the on the small screen. In South Texas, we were, so the game was in Spanish, which made it more interesting. Eddie Elk.
