Does anyone know of an App that does this?

I'm looking for an App (Android) to figure fuel economy, but to include generator usage.

Something that would take in Current Mileage, Gallons Used, Generator Hours, Price Per Gallon and spit out MPG along with a chart or something that would show you miles traveled between fill-ups, how much your fuel expense is on an immediate and ongoing basis and any other statistic that would be interesting.

It should have the ability to allow the user to change a setting for how much fuel the generator uses per hour of run time.

This would be for my Cumins diesel but I don't think it would be any different for gas powered engines and generators.

Anyone seen something like that? Just trying to make the whole process a little easier and quicker than finding the calculator, paper and pen.

There apps for mpg, just subtract the amount of fuel consumed by the generator before entering gallons of fuel. You could use 2 numbers, fuel consumed when generator is 'working hard' and when it's not.

Trying to get an accurate reading on generator fuel usage would be near impossible with out installing some sort of ECM dedicated. Typical estimates are 1/2 to 3/4 gal/hr under full load, which is the problem. What load is the generators handling and when. If using your air conditioners you may have one, two, three, or none running their compressors at mixed intervals, all while the generator is running and accumulating hours and using different fuel rates at different times.

Thanks, guys, I know how to do it. I'm looking for an app that will do it for me!

does it have to be an app? You could do it in a spreadsheet

Well, yeah, I guess I could. My wife is the one that figures it out while I'm pumping diesel and washing the windshield. Except she doesn't. We end up with scraps of paper with figures all over them. Haven't figured MPG for about two years now. I'm just looking to simplify it, maybe even make it fun. And I want her to have all the fun!

An as you describe it. Would be extremely unlikely as there is nearly zero demand for such an app. Even RV. Full timers would mostly not use it, let alone anybody else.

I'd have to agree with the spreadsheet suggestion.

Here's an old saying that May be a suggestion too: Don't fret the little things. :-)

I have an app called "Car Logbook" that calculates MPG, average distance travelled per day, average fuel cost, for both the MH and the Toad. Quite cheap ($5?) but I doubt it does generator usage. Has all sorts of other features that you might be interested in though. Great on my ipad.

You could always write an Excel macro to do the calculations and log the data. The unknown would be the generator usage. 1/2 load or full load will make a difference on fuel usage rate.

Personally, I do not make a big deal about fuel usage, but I do look at the periodically to see if we are in the expected range.

You most likely already know this, but if a Google search for "App for figuring fuel mileage" (without qotes) there will be many hits. Unfortunately I don't think there is one for combining generator fuel usage. Maybe this will help others find apps for fuel mileage.

I don't worry about the generator usage as we don't run it except about 20 minutes before we pull into a CG in the hot summer. Not a big factor in fuel mileage for us.

We use an iPhone app called Mileage Keeper. No way to separate out generator usage but we just put a note on a fill up like "Used Gen 4 Hours". The bottom line is that we used the fuel, whether the big engine or the little one got fed.

I use a spread sheet I made which takes into account generator use, I could send you a copy if you send a PM. If your phone doesn't allow you to use Excel files you can down load the Documents To Go app from Dataviz, cost is about $14 but it comes in handy for word and pdf files too. DTG is a great program.
