DTV Converter Question
Sometime back there was a thread running in iRV2 dealing with DTV converter issues...can't find right now, so will start this one.
I have installed a Magnavox DTV converter in my motorhome and in one of our daughters' bedrooms. The one in the motorhome works great....tv set to channel 3. The one in the bedroom has very low volume when the tv is set to channel 3, but has great volume when the tv is set to Video 1. It's a Mickey Mouse (not quality, but type) tv with a Video 1 and 2 below channel 2.
Our elderly baby sitter who lives a couple miles from here gets low volume, but she has only the regular channel numbers, and hers is set to channel 4. She also is using the Magnavox converter from Wally World.
Anyone else had a low volume problem with these converters, or any ideas why the digital volume would be bad on 3 but good on video 1? There us no problem with volume when viewing an analog station on any channel.

Sounds like the modulator in the converter has a problem with it's audio input.
If you're watching the output of the converter on channel 3, then you're watching the RF output of the converter (output of modulator). If you're using the Video 1 input, then you're getting an analog feed (RCA connector cables) from the converter, which doesn't go through the modulator to be turned into an RF (radio frequency) signal.

Some of the converters have issues with Stereo down-mix. My INsignia does. if I set it to MONO it works well but on Stereo and mix them externally it does not.. If I were to set it on Stereo and use chan-3 on a mono tv it would not work well.. but on Mono it does. Kind of confusing
However my suggestion is this.. Since it works great on VIDEO 1
USE it that way
THere is also a volume control on the remote for the converter too. You can turn the converter "UP or DOWN"

Thanks Guys,
In checking, I found that I did connect both the coax AND the RCA plugs, so Joe's analysis is probably correct. John also has the simplest solution...if it works, use it. I do not have either a stereo/mono option nor a volume control on the remote for the converter, so that limits what I can adjust. I can, however change the color and font sytle of my closed-caption if I choose.

You may already know this, but the converter box has a volume control as well as your tv. When I first powered up my converter the sound was low and then I found the sound controls on the converter and turned it up. Hope this helps.
