Explorer Satellite System
Recently (past 4 days) my automatic Search is not able to lock onto the Satellite. Shaw Direct says it is not their problem and I was told by a service department at a large RV dealership that the company is no longer around and that i need to replace my entire system. Wondering if anyone has some insight they could offer.
Coffee shop conversation with a guy indicated that Shaw Direct recently made some changes to the Satellite and that a new upgrade is forthcoming but the people at Shaw Direct don't confirm that info.
Help.

Hi, I talked to Shaw who directed me to Canadian satellite because it's a Wineguard problem. Shaw is migrating to full HD and any Wineguard sat build before 2017 will have to be upgraded. The upgrade is not available now but will cost $700...
On the other hand they said that my Sat system build in 2009 is good for the garbage and I'll have to buy a new unit for $2900 OUCH!!!

Hi ! Welcome to IRV2! We're sure glad you joined the gang!
I'm not familiar with that system but it sounds like you may have a new boat anchor! Just noticed that you are kinda new on IRV2 and wanted to say hello!
Good luck, happy trails, and God bless!

Unfortunately I have the explorer system and it is of no use anymore. I did get a remote with it of which I am told that I can manually tune it into the Sattelite but haven’t tried that yet. 3000 to replace system with a new one which sucks.

Manual mode may be your only option with a ESSI unit.
I recently pulled mine from the roof, as another gear in one of the three gearboxes stripped teeth off. There is no more customer service, or tech support!

Do you know what model of explorer system you have? I have the model 750, on the remote control it has auto, semi auto and manual modes, start the system as you normally would, when it starts to search for the sat. hit the stop button, then hit semi auto button, make sure that your TV is no, the system will find the first sat and stop, then it will ask you if this is the correct sat, if you get a picture on your TV hit the enter button, if on Pic. hit next button. This seams to work well on my unit, the problem is that Shaw switched to MPEG4 From MPEG2

Thanks for your feedback on the Sat System.
After getting tooooo frustrated with enquiries and not getting any answers that made any sense we ended up replacing it with a new wyngard. Works like a charm and although expensive we haven't had any issues.
I did try the remote that was with the ESSI but.........

Before you spend more on more junk check out RFMogul. Its a far better system that can be repaired on your MoHo if necessary. WIinegard must be sent to the factory for service.

. Thanks for the info. Mine is an EC700 but pretty sure I have the semi auto on mine so will give that a shot once I pull it out in the spring. Cheers

Hello. Wonder if you can help me out. I need to also move my same setup with the remote, but need to reprogram my remote to the satellite box controller because the batteries went dead. Do you have any information how to do this. Thanks, Dale.

Explorer satellite system
I believe I can get my dish to manually tune to find the satellite, but my dish is still the old Star Choice model. Does anyone know if I can still use it or would have to upgrade it to a Shaw dish?
