For those trying to activate a new Dish receiver

I just spent almost a month trying to get my new Dish Wally activated. Five different Dish associates, one with Winegard.

The last Dish rep found the problem, the original rep mistyped the Smart card number. Dish kept trying to tell me I didn't have enough signal strength.

Later ..

Glad you got the problem solved Ray! Dish has two levels of customer service. The ones that answer the phones, and the Advanced Support techs who know what they are doing. I wonder if you may have been talking to the first level every time you called?

Talked to second level once. They tried to tell me I didn't have enough signal strength at 38 to activate. Sent me to Winegard about my Playmaker. They told me you get picture at 23 and should be able to activate then.

Had me using a single cable out the door to the antenna and still couldn't get activation.

Once they figured out the wrong number it works fine with all the RV wiring

Later...

Glad you found the problem. Sometimes it's the simple things that are the biggest headache.

You never know with Dish what will happen. We reactivated our account after several years and I was able to just drop my Pathway X2 on the ground and had it activated in 15 minutes.

It's always a crap shoot when you call them for support(or not). My last call the dude didn't even want to troubleshoot at all until I pressed him.

When you can hear paper rustling in the background, you know they are reading from a script.

They also make up stuff if they don't know the answer.

Full discloseure: I am a retired IT network engineer. I can tell when I am being bamboozled. Yes, even degreed folks like me have to call for help sometimes.

To the op:38 is way more signal to activate. I get reception when the signal from my tailgater is in the 20's.
