I have had my Garmin 760 for about 3 years and have only done 1 update. So last fall I went to update and got the same message (no device found). Everything looked good but every time it had the same message.
Then I did some more looking and I had the wrong cord. It looked the same as the Garmin cord, plugged the right one in and did my update.

I'll try a different cord. The one I am using is the one that came with the unit and I have been using it for a couple of years.

Thanks

If you can't locate the original cable or find one that works, go to Best Buy and buy a USB cable that is marked as a "data" cable.

Take the GPS device with you to see if the USB cable will fit.

Were you ever able to get the GPS to communicate with your computer?

Honestly--I haven't tried. Been down with this winter's crud--flu or whatever it is. I think I'm over it now but trying to catch up on more important stuff. Won't need the GPS til end of April.
Thanks for checking and I will followup with results when I try again.

Thanks
DICK

I could not get the maps to update using Garmin Express. I had to use a different program that I had to download. I think called Garmin Downloader or something like that. I'm not at my computer now to check. I found link by doing Google search of some sort on Garmin maps won't update and found link.

Just for some updated information. I just updated the maps on my RV 760. I had the device in the house so I just grabbed on of a USB cable and plugged it into the data port on the bottom of the 760. I got the same message that no device was found.

After I responded to this thread about using the bottom data port and not the power/charging port I remembered that someone said to get a get a USB cable for data. I went back to the RV and got the cable from the Garmin box and plugged it into the bottom data port and Garmin Express almost immediately found the RV 760. So I think there is a difference in USB cables. The down load and map updates took about 40 minutes.

RV760

xrated, what files did you delete from your RV760 & what did you do to have them reinstalled? After my RV760 downloaded the map updates the GPS will not start up. All I get is the word GARMIN center screen and the word "system" center screen and towards the top. The word "system" drops down 3 clicks and then goes back up and drops down again---over & over for ever. Tried the off button 10 second hold & nothing My Garmin Express is a new down load & works fine because it updated my nuvi1300 and my nuvi1350 just fine. thanks

I also had the same problem using a non Garmin cable until I accidently unattached the power cord/mounting bracket on the back. Then it started communicating with Garmin Express.
