Garmin new 770 vs. old 660 (and 760)
I see the new 770lmt is shipping from Amazon. There are 14 reviews, mostly 4-star happy and a almost as many 1-star UNhappy. The old 660 and newer 760 have more stars from a lot more reviewers ( https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_n...=garmin+rv+gps)
So that all has me wondering - should I just get the 660 and save $150, or is there something in the 770 that's worth an extra $150? Smaller screen and much closer to its end of life, which would be negatives.
The 760 is only $25 less than the 770 but the reviews are much better - 5-star is most common - than the 660 or 770. Should be fully wrung out by now too.
So, does anyone have experience with more than one of these that would like to comment? I don't see a compelling case to get the 770.

Hi there, we just purchased the 760lmt and really like it. I had the same hesitation and pulled the trigger on that model. I updated it as soon as it arrived and haven't had any issues. Hopefully this helps in your purchase.

Interesting wrinkle - went over to garmin.com where they only offer the 770 & 660. Apparently the 760 has been discontinued first. Makes sense, I suppose, to not compete with your own flagship product.

I bought the 760 last summer and it is exactly what I wanted in a GPS.
But it was replaced by the 770.

Apparently according to folks on the garmin forum, the 770 is having problems connecting with and receiving routes from BaseCamp. I use BaseCamp to plan entire trips then download the routes to my 760. Other than it occasionally re-doing the route after import, it works great.

We purchased the 770, so far I'm very happy with it.
If it matters we do not use basecamp.

We also bought the 660. Good reviews and much cheaper but then we just wanted a backup so might have gotten the latest if it was to be main unit.

760 then the 660 then the 770, 760 is a great unit, 660 little brother to 770 new in the line with a new screen and a few upgrades. Most of the bad reports are new users that really need instruction on use. They, all other brands included only do what they are told. And one must still think a bit as there are and will be data base errors the human part. I'll have a 770 before long, just got to convince the wife "the new one is soooo much better".

After some study, I could not see any features on the 770 that were worth $100+ so bought the 660 in June. I've used it for 1300 miles lately and am completely happy - nothing I know now would have changed my decision.
- The screen is big enough to read without my reading glasses
- Setting a route on the device is quick and easy, once you learn it
- The routes it chooses are good, and rerouting is quick if you somehow get off the path
- Appears to learn my preferences in areas I drive repeatedly, eg home neighborhood
- I've tried Basecamp for route setting, but it didn't seem to add much; maybe on a long and complicated route it would be better?
- Has a nifty ability to automatically scale the display in and out depending on the situation
- Spoken directions are easy to hear, and it will say "turn left at the traffic light," rather than "In 800 feet, turn left" which can be misleading
- Out of the box, the options that were set as default were more (map was covered with icons...) and less (I like to see time of day) than I wanted -- still working on getting the right combination
- Out of the box, the map database seemed to be years old (my storage place didn't exist in the maps) but updating was easy
- Garmin makes it pretty easy to file an error report if you find an error, which I have done twice about entrances to RV camps...
- The manual is crap -- describes everything it can do one feature at a time, but not how to get a particular look and feel
