Yeah, that could take you all over the countryside. That's one setting I left alone....

I guess that's what is really important to me while driving, less fumbling around. The GPS unit does that for us. No-one should trust directions 100%, always verify. Check before the trip.
That really is the beauty of GPS units. Set it up ahead of time so you're not fumbling with maps while you're trying to drive, plus knowing where your next turn is when you're in a city you're not familiar with. The weather and traffic features are icing on the cake.

A great addition to any Garmin is BaseCamp for those who want to take the time to learn it.

I just cannot get my head wrapped around Base Camp. Iíve used their old mapping program MapSource for years as well as other mapping programs but Base Camp was a no go for me.

There is a learning curve with base camp. But no different then you started with Mapsource. I wish Garmin would update there mapping programs and maybe they are with their Drive App for smartphones. Since I have the 770 I can not use the drive app. There are some good YouTube videos on Basecamp if you want to take the time and learn it.

Most of the new Garmin devices allow you to send locations from a smartphone to your Garmin. It's a pretty easy way to look things up and then 'share' the location via Bluetooth, and it makes routing much easier.

With the 890 it uses the Drive Ap. I believe it's mandatory...

Garmin Drive App issues

I just received the RV780 + traffic and Iím having issues. I can connect my phone to the Garmin thru Bluetooth, But it will not find it if trying to pair thru the Drive app. I have ďforgottenĒ both devices but I still cannot get it to pair thru the app.
Any ideas on how to get this to work? I feel like Iíve tried everything.
My phone is compatible (Galaxy S21+)

Thanks in advance!

Seems like they are having some connectivity issues with their apps. My dezlcam 785 is also having trouble connecting to their Smartlink app. The bluetooth data connection is still there, but not all the app features work like being able to send locations directly to the Garmin from Google Maps.

Have you tried using the Garmin Smartlink App? Not sure if it is compatible with your particular unit, but it's worth a try.

I have a Galaxy A10e and haven't noticed any connectivity issues. In fact, on a recent car trip I had to shut the Bluetooth in the RV780 off because I preferred to connect my phone to my car's system and the Garmin kept taking priority.

Bluetooth connection itself is okay for me, it's the functionality of their apps via Bluetooth that has a problem.

Are you able to make use of the actual Garmin app on the phone to do anything with the Garmin? Or, to send data to/from the Garmin?

I only use the BT connection for phone calls and traffic/weather updates. Seems to work ok for that.

That's been my experience as well. I called Garmin to get some help with their apps, and it was clear to me that they are not terribly interested in keeping up with the ever-changing platforms used by Android and Apple, resulting in apps that lose functionality.
