Garmin RV890 and Garmin Dash Cam 56 are NOT compatible

My old GPS was no longer working so I picked up a new RV 890 on Black Friday. I also bought a Dash Cam 56, primarily for it's voice command control and the phone interface.

However, both of these devices rely on the Wake Up phrase "OK Garmin". Earlier GPS versions allowed one to change the wake up phrase, but on these devices there is no way to change to do so. The result is every time you issue a command to the GPS, the Camera "Beeps" that is is listening. And exponentially worse, each time you issue a command to the camera (ie. "OK Garmin, Take a Picture"), the GPS replies "I'm sorry, I don't know that command". Very annoying!

Seems like a pretty big oversight on Garmin's part, I guess they want to sell only one device per customer. Bottom line, I'm glad I tested this out before installing, the camera is going back.

Does Garmin....or anyone else make a dash camera for the RV 890? I have the 890 and love it but would also like to add the dash CAM.

I was bummed that the 56 won't work for me since I wanted the voice Control. Looking at others now, some have voice control some don't. The Rove 4K and a unit by VAVA both seem highly rated.

Did you contact Garmin to see if there's a solution?

Yes - No way around the duplicate wake-up words, and you can't defeat the "Sorry, I don't know that command" alert. The rep I spoke with "submitted" my feedback.

Does the dash cam interface with the RV890? Or is it that it and the RV890 both are voice activated (or voice whatever)?

I have (have had for years) a dash cam that comes on when I start my truck and goes off when I shut the truck off. I first got it when I had a motorhome. It just records away and the video is there if I ever need it.

It doesn't interface with the 890, just listens for the same wakeup phrase. I thought some of its hands free features might be useful ("Take a picture", "Start Travel-lapse") when traveling through pretty scenery. But it's primary purpose is insurance, so I'll just pick up a good quality basic unit instead.

The Garmin 785 includes a dash cam and voice activated navigation sells for $400 which is what I paid for the Garmin 760LMT.

What happens if you don't use the voice function? The camera can't just record constantly as most do? I'm confused what the problem is. If you can just turn off the voice function on the camera I don't see an issue
