I recently updated the software on my Garmin so I could read the latest version of City Navigator and as a result of doing so, I am now unable to transfer the data from my computer to the data card via the USB port. I was able to do this previously.
Has anyone experienced this problem and if so, how was it corrected.
I like the unit due to it portability, so I am not anxious to get rid of it. Having used it for almost four years.
Thank you,
Bob

Bob, I have one of those units. It may be that you also need to update the software on the Garmi unit itself. Use WebUdate for a painless way of updating this.

Doug,
Thank you for the insight. I went to the website, downloaded drivers, etc., card still didn't work. Tried the obvious and contacted Garmin. After exchanging a number of e-mails, they determined the card was bad and offered to do an exchange.
Hopefully this will correct the problem. For those considering a Garmin, I must say they have been extremely helpful and have great customer service.
Thanks again Doug,
Bob

Bob,

When you say that you updated the maps, did you get the CDs for veriosn 6 or 7 updates for City Navigator? If you did, you also need the unlock code from Garmin. The CD upgrades are free. The unlock code costs $150.00. That's Garmin's protection to keep everyone from just copying the CDs. After you have the unlock code, you can "unlock" the maps, and that will allow the transfer to the Street Pilot III. I have a SP III and went through this when upgrading the maps.

Upgrading the operating system for the SP III and the drivers for the USB programmer are free from Garmin and can be downloaded and installed from their web site.

Bob,
I now have Version 7 on my laptop. For the longest time I was using City Navigator 4.01 until a friend gave me the CD for V7. The cost for the unlock code was $75.00 and I was also able to update my Mapsource to 6.019 (I think those are the correct numbers). I had 5.0 (something).
For the longest time I didn't use all the bells and whistles, now I am like a kid with a new toy
The only problem I am now experiencing is the original City Navigator comes up telling me it is not unlocked. Don't need it, so don't worry about it.

Good luck with the Version 7 maps. I bought the Version 6 maps and was very disappointed. We went to Alaska in June, and the maps and our positions were off in both Canada and Alaska. Garmin did not seem to be interested in my reports of inaccuracies. I believe that some of this was corrected with Version 7, but I don't plan to buy it, because I don't think that the U.S. maps are that much different.

Enjoy the bells and whistles. I've enjoyed the SP III and Map Source for several years.

Happy New Year

W8RLM - Bob
