GPS

I have a Rand McNally 7710 GPS and liked it when it worked I purchased a new Class C motorhome with and over cab. When I hooked up my Gps it worked for a while and then all of a sudden it started to freeze up and not show were I was. I called Rand McNally and they said I needed and outside antenna but the did not have one available. I proceeded to find one and had it installed. This winter I escaped to the southwest for the winter. Had problems with it freezing up, getting hot and not charging. I would hook it up to the computer do updates and diagnostic's and it would find errors and correct them. Then it would work for a mile or tow and do the same thing over again. I was able to borrow a little Garmin car gps and it worked fine. Rand McNally would not do anything about it said I would have to buy an new one. I had only had this one since 1/2012 and used only 4 months.

I am in the process of looking for a new GPS and was wondering if anyone had any experience with the New Model of Rand McNally RVND 7725 or the Magellan RoadMate RV9145-LM. Hope someone can give me some info on them, can't afford to be buying a GPS every other year.

Do a search on GPS and you'll find lots of posts on this topic. For what it's worth, I've had Tom Tom's, Garmin, and the Magellan Roadmate sold by CW a few years back. I have found they will all p*ss you off from time to time but found the Garmin units less problematic. I actually ended up just throwing the Roadmate in the trash after two years of frustration. Made the wife mad as she had given it to me as a Christmas gift.

We are currently using the Rand McNally app for our I Pad. For the first time in years, we feel comfortable using a GPS for guidance. In fact, on our last trip, we ran the Rand McNally and our Tom Tom. The Tom Tom consistently wanted us to take routes that would get us into trouble, and when we followed the Rand McNally route, the Tom Tom would not be able to figure out how to direct us. We finally turned the Tom Tom off.

Am I saying the Rand McNally is perfect? NO. Not by a long shot. But it's coming close to being able to rely on it. Which is more than we have been able to say for any of the others.
