I own a 2004 Itasca Meridian and need some help from a person who knows electronics. The entertainment system in my coach consists of 2 TV sets and two speakers. There is an external port for a TV, and a port for cable signal input. There is a batwing antenna on the roof for over the air TV. A component switch box (Box of Many Buttons) with coaxial connections controls the TV inputs and outputs. The coaxial used is RG59.

The main cabin TV was replaced a few years ago with a Visio 23 inch flat screen. The video input for the flat screen is HDMI. The initial cable input port has been rewired with RG6 coax from the input port to the Dish Network receiver. This is a single cable run from the port – no couplers or switches are used.
The cable run from the BOMB to the bedroom and to the external TV port remain RG59, and are at the moment unused.

My objective is to replace the BOMB (containing the BatWing TV antenna amplifier) with another component. (A switching system?) The coaxial input from the batwing antenna needs to be converted to an HDMI signal to the TV.

As stated in the subject, I am not electrically proficient enough to determine what components I need to update my current system.

What you are wanting to do is moderately complicated and somewhat expensive. Since you are not technically familiar with what is needed to convert your system I would suggest contacting an RV service professional that has experience in this type of modification. In the long run it will be less expensive and a whole lot less frustrating than trying to do it yourself.

Your HDMI inputs to the TV do not tie into a tuner, therefore, it will not be feasible to convert RG-6 to HDMI directly, as you will not receive any signal. You would have to use something like this to do the conversion, and then you have bypassed the tuner in the TV with an external tuner. Seems to be a lot to go thru.

IMHO there's little reason to replace the BOMB box unless you're feeding signals to TVs from some central source. Ever since we ditched DirecTV and our BlueRay player there's no reason for TVs to be tied to a single device. Each of our TVs has a Roku and that's all they need.

I agree with what DocJ said.... Roku.

But you never said why you want to run HDMI from where your "BOMB" is to each TV. Maybe to distribute a signal from a satellite receiver, or a DVD player or.....?

What is your goal here?

Since you said the connection from the external "cable" input now goes directly to a Dish receiver and into your front TV via an HDMI cable I'll guess you want that same feed into your second TV. There are wireless ways to do this that will have to also include an HDMI splitter (another electronic box).

As far as HDMI from the batwing antenna - that just doesn't make sense as that receives over-the-air radio frequency signals that any newer TV can handle an produce as-good-as, if not better, signal than any HDMI Device - even on sub par RG59.
