Home theater replacement

On our new to us 2009 Thor Magellan the executive hts-1000 AV system is kaput. Powers up but nothing else. Add to that the previous owner left the batteries in the remote and that is NG as well. If the remote was good I would have the receiver repaired but that is not an option now.

My question is what have others upgraded to.

I will go to an electronics store when we return from our present month trip to get opinions.

When we bought the MH in 2012 I replaced the old surround sound receiver, which had a built-in DVD player, with a low-cost Denon receiver and separate BluRay DVD player. I also installed a powered subwoofer since the old setup just used a cheap, speaker-level sub. I was blown away by how great this sounds! The thread below will tell you of the problems I had.

I upgraded to the Pioneer VSX1124. It has several outputs and lots of HDMI inputs. I can cast movies from my phone to the TV in full surround sound using Chrome-cast. I have Pandora as well as Satellite and Internet Radio all going through the unit. The Pandora has a place where you can enter your password to your router and the logon information to Pandora in the unit so you only have to do it once. It has a Blue Ray player input and a powered sub-woofer. The grand kids really like the movies. I also have the Verizon LTE router modem hooked up to the unit and can do Netflix but haven't done it yet. Very happy we upgraded. The wife like the Pandora love songs channel. If you are going this route I would suggest the VSX1130-k and the 1124 is not available any more. It is expensive but the sound will literally blow you away.

My set up is similar to yours with my switching box in a cabinet above the passenger seat and my main tv in the slide in back of that chair. I am not going to run any new cabling. I want to find another home theater reciever with similar in puts and out and your denon looks promising. I had to run a 110v line up to where the switching box is for my dish VIP 211K reciever and donated a little blood doing it.

I have a bluray player in a cabinet under the tv and works with hdmi. Luckily our new to use mh had Jensen led Tvs with hdmi.

As my dish reciever only has sd I can live ( for now) without hd

A saying I've often fell victim to

" if it ain't broke don't fix it ... or if it ain't broke fix it till it is"
