How to watch Amazon Prime Videos Offline

We watch videos on both Amazon Prime and Netflix, and want options to watch them when located in areas with no internet (i.e., no Wifi or cell phone coverage). At this time, we do not have or plan to get satellite coverage. Our primary connection will be via a Hotspot on our cell phones. Our carrier is T-Mobile.

For Netflix, the plan is to download videos to our laptop while having internet coverage and then watch them via an HDMI cable between the laptop and our TV when no coverage is available. This seems to work fine.

Amazon Prime will not allow downloading to a laptop; they only allow downloading to cell phones or similar device. We bought a Google Chromecast and thought that would work via casting from the phone to the TV -- yet (according to Google) the Chromecast only works when internet is available. We tried a wifi router to generate a local wifi network and were able to connect the phone, TV, and Chromecast to the local wifi yet still the Chromecast would not allow casting from the phone to the TV.

Things we have considered are: another router than the one we have, the "PlayOn TV" app, and a DVR. Would any of these work?

Anyone have suggestions for how to watch the Amazon Prime videos (offline) that are stored on our phones? We'd like to watch them on our TV in our coach.

Watching to see what suggestions others have. Thought I could make Corome cast work but no luck.

Enjoy the journey

X1 with Playon. We "record" everything from Netflix, Hulu and Amazon prime to a portable hard drive. We simply take the hard drive when we go camping and plug it directly into the TV's USB port and watch away. A lifetime subscription to PlayOn desktop is only about $35.00.

Playon is working fine for me a couple of years now. The few issues I've had were dealt with promptly.

The also make USB-C to HDMI adapters for Android phones, download to your phone, plug the phone into tv and use the app to display to the tv screen.

Here is a youtube video that gives the basics, though the text is not in english (french?)

Not all Android phones will support this. I know that my Pixel 2XL doesn't.

Plex is another consideration, though it's more targeted at people who have large libraries of media (DVDs, etc.) they want hosted on a single device so they can set up their own local Netflix. Its feature set has extended over the years to include sharing each others' libraries, streaming live TV, and other things. This article lists the "Top 7 Best Media Software Choices", with pros, cons, and features discussed. Plex comes in at #1, and PlayOn at #7, however that is solely from the perspective of the article, which is targeted toward the idea of having a library locally. The OP specifically asked about recording streaming media, for which PlayOn seems to be the best choice.

Hope this helps.

Cheers.

Plex is a catalog / database and a player.
Playon is a content "ripper".
Different things.
You copy the live content using Playon to a file.
You then can use Plex to catalog that file and render (play) the file to your display device (TV / phone / PC).

May have the solution. There is now an Amazon Prime Video app for Windows 10 available on the Microsoft App Store. I set up the app on my laptop; then logged into my Amazon Prime account; then downloaded a video onto my laptop's hard drive; then closed all internet connections and was able to play the video from my laptop to my TV via an HDMI cable. Seems to work !!

Doesn’t look like Playon works on Mac laptops?
