iPhone iOS lightening to Ethernet adapter Visible
I’m trying out the Visible option. I’ve got it on an iPhone. I tried the router combo suggestion. But the suggested router got flaming hot in less than an hour and has no “power” button. Seems lots of complaints on it, so it’s being returned. iPhones won’t hook up to just any router supposedly. I’ve found an adapter that is lightening to Ethernet. So I’m thinking iPhone, adapter, Ethernet to any router= shared WiFi. Can’t find any information that says you can share your cellular through this adapter. Only information is providing Ethernet service “to” the phone. Nothing about sending service “from” the phone. Will the adapter trigger the tethering? That’s that million dollar question.
Anyone have any experience with this?? If this is possible I could basically use any router with this adapter and a Ethernet cord. But I have no idea if connecting the Ethernet will “send” the connection. Any help is appreciated.
*Just hooking to the phone’s hotspot doesn’t allow enough range from the phone* We’ve done it with a Verizon prepaid and were constantly moving the phone inside/outside (this why I’d like a router).
Needing a Verizon based option. As that’s all that works in one particular area. Whole family needs the connection because phones are ATT which means no service while we’re in the area. Obviously Visible is cheaper than Verizon prepaid and unlimited if I can make it work.

Not sure that's possible. I tried to tether my Iphone to my Peplink SOHO router via usb. No bueno. Apparently Apple uses a proprietary protocol. Your best bet is to use a router that supports WAN over Wifi and tether it wirelessly. I have had success doing that with the Peplink\Iphone. When I signed up for Visable I got a cheap Android phone. No issue with that tethering via usb to the Peplink router.

Thanks! Yeah tethering is wonky with an iPhone that why I’m curious about this adapter. If it’ll trigger the tethering to transfer any router “should” work. I had this phone available and Visible was sold out on all their cheap android options. So I just went with this iPhone. I can connect more than one device to the hotspot directly but range is a short few feet.

I connect my MacBook laptop to my Visible iPhone 7 Plus using a USB-C to Lightning cable, and get Internet on the laptop at full speed without the Visible WiFi hotspot throttling.
You have to turn on the hotspot on the Phone settings.
Then, to connect other devices like a Fire TV stick or Apple TV you can turn on Internet Sharing via WiFi on your MacBook Laptop. This seems to work for me without having to have a separate router, and avoids the Visible WiFi hotspot throttling that you can get if you connect your Fire TV stick directly to the phone hotspot.

It will work with a Mac\Windows PC but I haven't found any router than has the proper drivers to support the Iphone. Apparently Apple has not\will not provide them.

This is the cable I’m looking at. “If” it will engage the tethering feature, then it “should” be able to be plugged by Ethernet to any router. That’s the goal. Without having to bridge through a laptop. I’d like to avoid the bridge through the laptop if possible. I don’t always have it with me. I posted a link for the adapter I’m looking at below. It basically turns lightening to Ethernet. But I don’t know if it’ll engage the tethering. You can tether internet “to” the phone with it I know but I guess I’ll just have to buy and test the theory of it being outbound.

I'll be interested in what you find out. As I said earlier I have been successful in tethering an Iphone 7 over wifi using the Wan over Wifi feature on the Peplink Soho. Not sure what other routers support it but I'm sure there are many options.

I'm not well versed in iOS, but if you can hotspot to a laptop using that Ethernet adapter from an iPhone, maybe you could determine the Mac address of the ethernet port in the laptop and the IP address that it is assigned by the tethering. Then spoof that Mac address on the WAN side of a router.
Not sure if it will work but it might be worth a try?
