King Dome Help

We have a friend traveling with us this season and she has a King Dome automatic sat system, model 9702. She has never used it before so I was helping her set it up with her Direct TV box.

When trying to get the dome to find a sat I discovered that the hand held control didn't have power. A call to King Dome was fruitless as they no longer provide tech assistance for this dome as it is 5 years old. A local dealer could only help by removing it and sending it in for repair.

Does anyone have this unit that has experienced this problem? I wondering if it is a simple fix that I might be able to do.

Get the receiver signal meter up on your TV. Set the transponder to 1 and push the ON button for about 5 seconds until the search actually begins. At some point the KD should stop and you will get 2 green lights. If you have no signal strength then DO NOT hit the off button but instead hit the ON button again (1-2 seconds). Repeat this procedure over and over until you do see a signal strength on the TV. NOW hit the off button on the KD controller to lock that satellite into its memory. Be patient, this might take an hour.

Bill gave a good description of how to use the KD. However if there is no power to the handheld controller that is a different problem. My King Dome which is the same model needs about 12.8 volts to operate. On mine the installer taped the 12 volt that goes to the Winegard Video Switch to feed the KD. There is one wire that goes to the handheld controller and another wire that connects to the 12 volt feed. I am not sure were these two wires join together before going to the KD.

Wow, I completely missed the point, didn't I! Sorry.
That's disappointing to hear that King Dome won't help. I can't for the life of me imagine why not. Are we all supposed to change dishes every couple of years?
Boo King Dome!
Back on topic, again, sorry.
If you look on the roof and the King Dome has one big fat plug going in and separately a coax cable you may be able to find the 12V source.
If you are able to trace the phone wire backward into the cabinet you will come to a junction where the 12V wire joins the cable running to the roof join. Follow those 12V wires back and see if something is disconnected. Do you know if this is a factory installed unit or an after market? I might be able to give you a better idea where to look.

Also on the search, make sure you are aiming at the correct Sat, i.e, DirectV SD I believe is 101. The door to the cabinet slammed on me one time and it actually changed the button selection on the switch.
