King Dome warranty vs new portable unit

I have a Kingdome in-motion Sat. that is still under warranty and does not work. RV shop contacted king controls and I was told that I have to pay shipping to and from. The unit is almost 2 yrs. old. After 1 yr customer pays shipping. I will have to also pay a tear down charge if they find it is not their fault. It has never worked properly since new. Don't know if it was damaged by the original dealer or not. Shipping is about 300 r/t and tear down could be 75-125.
Do I throw more money at it or cut my losses and just get a portable model. We will not ever use it while traveling. This I do know. I do have Dish pay as you go service with the like reciever.

Advice !!

I would cut my losses. This is what I did after 3 repair bills. Should have done it sooner. I didn't have good experience either.

Spare dish

I always carry a portable manual dish. I built a 'low down and upside down satellite dish'. I made the stand completely out of PVC pipe, bought the dish and LNB on EBay, and a handful of nuts & bolts from a local hardware store. I think my total cost was $38. I drilled out the LNB arm so it folds into the dish and the stand is not even glued together. It has withstood winds that blew over and broke 'normal' tripod dishes.

All this was necessary because sometimes we're under trees, and the rest of the time the KVH doesn't work for no known reason.

Aiming isn't all that hard. I don't even bother with a level any more. Just a compass.

Good luck!

Don't think I will tackle building my own, but I am going to delete kingdome from my vocabulary. I will remove it and plug the holes.
Then I will most likely get a portable unit that supports 2 tv's. Probably from CW. Unless anyone has a better idea and better price.
