KVH cleaning and dusting

Just want to pass on a little info...

We have a KVH TracVision R4SL and a Directv 2 channel DVR. Everything has worked well (more or less) for the last 3 years.

Recently, we experienced an unusual problem. One of the DVR channels would not work while the other was fine. Checked signal strength and, sure enough, one dish output had no signal. Let the dish realign and that fixed it, for a few minutes. Rebooting the DVR fixed it, for a few minutes, then only one output was there.

Long story short, did the basic tightening of connections and cleaned the bug goo and dirt from the dish dome. No help. There are several connections under the dome, so off it came. Connections were all good. Found nothing mechanical loose, or otherwise out of sort. I did notice that after I'd touched the face of the dish, I'd disturbed a fine, but very noticeable layer of dust. Cleaned that as well as the face of the LNB. Reassembled it all.

Lo and behold, everything worked. And, still does 2 days later. Hope it stays that way.

Steve

Steve,
Thanks for the info and it will come in handy, sometime in the future.
I have a R4SL and upgraded to HD with DishNetwork.
It's worked flawlessly for 4 years since new
