This should work too

Thanks, no such options.

I give up.

How about completely uninstalling edge into oblivion never seeing it again. I've kept windows 10 but curious now on getting 11 just to cure that blight if I run into it.

Success, I think. Thanks " inthepines" line #10 on your first URL was the secret.

I had tried everything else.
Thanks everyone for you input and patience.

In the end this is what did the trick:
Go to Lock Screen Settings. In the Background drop down, select either Picture or Slideshow. Choose your picture.
Done.
The Windows Spotlight option is what starts up Edge.

Sincerely

Would not let me delete or uninstall Edge.

Thanks

Edge cannot be removed, it's intrinsically embedded into Windows 11.

I can be suppressed, however, but how to do that is beyond the capabilities of most users. There is a "windows 10 de-bloat script" (YooToob search hint) that runs under ADMIN terminal screen; it's very powerful and if you don't fully understand the implications of your choices, you can end up with a non-functioning computer... but you'll never see Edge/Bing on that machine again.

The script can also disable Cortana, most all Micro$oft tracking, telemetry, and variable displays (lock screens, etc) that constantly phone home and send who knows what to M$. Yes, I've used it... and came very close to bricking one of my computers. It also "fixed" a bunch of annoying stuff that Win10 was doing, but I had to make a few phone calls to insure I wasn't about to hose a working Windows installation.

glad it worked for you. I still run 7 myself and will continue even though it is end of life.

In Firefox browser go to "Tools" then "Settings" then "Search", then change your default search engine from "Bing" to "Google".

I suffer many of the same frustrations with Microsoft. I wish I had the confidence to switch to Linux.

Switching

I've had enough with the windows/microsoft heavy handed approach. I'm switching to a Chromebook on my next purchase. Since I've retired I mostly surf the web and don't need much word processing anymore.

Chrome is a direct path to Google/Alphabet data harvesting. That may not be a concern, or it might. Thought I'd mention it.

Thanks for the info. I'm sure microsoft collects a lot of data also. My browsing history is very boring. I'm not concerned.

As I said earlier, firefox is my default browser but edged opens first. I have to close edge and open Firefox manually.

Any help is appreciated. Sorry for the misinformation.
Enter Windows Settings. The gear Icon in Windows 10.
You should see the Menu in the attached Screen Shot.
Select the last item <Startup>
Check to see if the Edge browser is listed in the list that come up as being loaded at Startup.
If it is, then remove it.

I just noticed you were using Windows 11. I haven't checked my computer that is running 11, so it may or not be in the same menu. But my Windows 11 computer was not configured to automatically run Edge.
