Lost our Local Channels
We are out of our spot beam for direct tv local channels.
What is the best way to get them back?
We heard that Amazon prime has them,Is that true?
What else can we do?We are using the 18" dish.

You can no longer get locals on a standard definition Directv dish. Prime does not have locals.

If you have Tubi you might find a Fox affiliate.

You probably will have to go to an internet provider (IP) and stream your local channels.
I'm not a computer guy, so might be in left field there. Maybe others can give much better advice.

Another inexpensive option is to get a HD Antenna
You would have to have a compatible TV but free over the air channels

The thing is we do not want to watch commercials. We were so used to recording everything and then skip pass the commercials.

I hear you about the commercials! We do the same at home, but have learned to suck it up when we are travelling.
OTA works well in many of the more populated areas. Just takes a bit of searching.

Check out Select TV.
Might be an option.

I didn't learn to suck it up when traveling! I have two Tablo OTA DVR's. One is in the coach. I can record any local station the roof antenna on my coach will pick up, then scan through the commercials when I watch the recording. It works well. I have recordings set up, and if Tablo finds the program on a local station, it records it automatically. I don't have to set it up again on the new station.
I also have a Tablo at home, recording all my usual programs. Using the Tablo Connect feature I can stream from my home Tablo to my coach. (Assuming I have good cell coverage and data to support it.) If I am going to have to stream to get my local stations back home, I might as well stream from my own device.
The only drawback is that not all devices are compatible with the Tablo Connect feature. Roku is not. My Nvidia Shield is, one of the two reasons I have it instead of the Roku.

NewsON app has local news channels from all over the USA.
Otherwise, OTA is the only answer.
I have a Fire Recast at home that gets local channels, about 23 channels including the networks.
I can watch them all on the road on my Fire TV App on a phone or tablet. They don’t allow it to be watched on the Firestick, which I think is stupid.

I read most of the reviews not good. Here is the last one.[Beware of this service in 2022, as they refuse to cancel my service or refund me! Run away while you can because if you want a refund they will not answer you, scam. Many of the CH’s I wanted not working dead links.

Just call your provider and change your service address. Minutes later, you’re all set.
