I am about ready for a satellite setup for internet use and am Considering the Maxwell setup as it looks sturdy and easy to use. Any input would be helpful. We are fulltiming in a 5er and budget doesnt allow a Motosat type setup.
TIA
John

I have a Dustyfoot system, which is the same basic system as Maxwell. There are only 2 tripod systems I recommend, Dustyfoot and Maxwell. Both of them have an excellent reputation for service and continued support.

OK, I've had my tripod system since August of 2004. I've set it up over 125 times, in over 35 states, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. The only time I've not been able to get service is when I've been so deep in the trees I couldn't see the SW sky. You're first 2 or 3 times setting up may take a while, but the time will decrease the more often you set it up. I'm down to about 15 to 20 minutes, from first piece out of the car to online.

If you buy now, meaning in the next few days, you will be assigned to SM5/117, because that's the sat that's in the rotation right now. It's good for most of the US, and most of Mexico, but you will be out of the footprint of the sat at about Olympia, WA. If your travels do not include the Pacific NW, or Alaska, that sat will work fine. Once you are assigned a sat, as a tripod user, it will be nearly impossible to get reassigned, so if Alaska is in your plans, wait until Horizons is back as the default.

I've got my system set up behind a wireless router, and run 2 and sometimes 3 computers off the modem.

I wouldn't be without it. I've messed with CG wireless, carrying a laptop to the office and even tried cell phone.

Go for it, you'll be happy.

We have the Maxwell. We've set it up only twice (we don't move much) Would "ditto" Bob on everything. We don't have much basement room but, dimantled, it fits nicely in the back of our Cherokee. Good investment!!!

Dustyfoot:
http://www.dustyfoot.com

He's still at $1495.00 plus shipping.
There may be a $200.00 rebate with him as well, because the rebate is a Hughes thing.

Maxwell:
http://www.maxwellsatellite.com/

$1750.00 less $200.00 rebate until 7/31.
