My 815S has been turned on for almost 24 hours now, just finished streaming an hour long show on Netflix, running in dual band mode with the extended range option on, plugged into a USB charger, and the temperature of the back plate is only slightly above room temperature, maybe 80-84 degrees in a 72 degree room if I were to guess. (much cooler than my Samsung Galaxy S8+ which is midway through charging (currently at 78% charge, put on the charger an hour or so ago at around 40%)

I haven’t ordered a netgear 815s yet, if it says Locked to ATT on EBay is that ok or do I need an unlocked device? I would assume being locked to ATT is ok since the sim is being moved from an ATT Mobley.

Did you try running your 815s without the battery? I ran mine for 6 months without a battery until it got flaky and started rebooting all the time. The replacement I bought wasn't any better so I returned it. Now I have a Netgear 4gLTE Modem and a TP-Link router that works great.

The AT&T locked 815S should be fine for a Mobley SIM, as to running without a battery, I have not tried as Netgear warns against doing so.

Not sure, but why would you want to do that?

Didn't I read that the Velocity can't be operated with an AC adapter, that it must be connected to the OBD port?

Some have had to put back in Mobley to enter PUK and new passcode after failing passcode in new device.
Then remove put in new device and enter the new passcode.

It can be an issue for some devices and batteries if operating 24/7 and plugged in. I've had a battery get swollen.

Anyways, I joined this Netgear Unite Explore 815S club. Just ordered one from eBay for $54.95 (free shipping) but with $5.11 w/Sales Tax (WA).

Think I will buy that Netgear external antenna to.

Originally wanted the Nighthawk but didn't want to pay $200. If I get a deal on one, I think I will be able to sell the 815S for close to what I paid for it

Sounds like I will have to search for a proper charging adapter, I want to run both WiFi bands at the same time.

I have the external antenna for the 815S. It works great at my S&B, but I have not used it while on trips. On trips I place the 815S in my tablet GPS holder on the dash and it has worked great in that location. At my S&B I have the 815S velcrod to my window trim with the antenna stuck to the window facing North which is the direction of the closest AT&T tower.

I like that price!

Best price I’ve been able to find was 139.00

I use external antenna(s) when required. Each directional antenna is a MIMO pair and I hook up one of the antennas to each input.

It seems that if I plug one antenna into each port on the Explore I get less strength then if I just use one. I am continuing to test this when I don't have a strong ATT signal.

I am using a USB charger adapter that came with a Samsung phone, it is marked EP-TA20JBE which most likely came with a Galaxy S8 or S9 phone, but might have been some other Samsung product. I had previously tried an Amazon branded adapter along with others, which failed to maintain full charge while doing heavy downloading / streaming.

Mobley

We only use our mobley when we are away from s/b, currently 4-5 months. Do I need to leave the 815s plugged in when we are not using it?
