9th paragraph: "The system is due to go live in the northern United States and Canada later this year and expand to global coverage by 2021."

i'm skeptical as well. 42,00??? that's a lot of orbital slots. i can see why "the scientists" are concerned.

Cut from the article: The system is due to go live in the northern United States and Canada later this year and expand to global coverage by 2021.

The last time this was this being discussed in this forum it was being praised as internet for everyone.

From the article posted...

Musk said the network was primarily targeted at a niche market of three to four percent of users who live in remote areas, and was therefore not a threat to traditional telecommunications companies.

Maybe this isn't the solution for RVers.

If Musk is only targeting a "niche" segment of the market, he is sure devoting a lot of resources to serving a small market. If they need 42,000 satellites to serve their market, at 60 satellites per launch, that requires almost 10x the total number of Falcon 9's launched to date. So far the math and hype just do not seem to converge. Having said that, I am always hopeful this tech may make sense for my use case. Let's wait and see where we are later this year.

IMO- only time will tell. I doubt if very many us RVer's are really in knowledge of correct detail information. So far I see lots of speculation, kinda of like election predictions. We have been given limited information as is needed by Starlink's progress.

Musk continues to accomplish things many people thought impossible a few years ago. We will see.

Cut the crap, don't post until it actually happens. Really, I'll believe it when I see the actual system and cost of it.

I'm also going to try it out right away.
Besides the guestimate of $80 per month, it is estimated to cost between $100-300 for the "UFO like dish" and will be really easy to set up.

i also have been monitoring the progress of starlink and oneweb.

I think both will offer services in the 1 year time frame.

The think the largest unknown and probably the holdup and releasing more details is related to not having a home unit production cost down to a reasonable cost. I have seen a similar type system as described by musk however the price point was in the 4k range. Whole lot more than the 300 range as he has spoken. I am sure he is fully aware that they want to be in the price point of most smart phones 3 i can see them developing the unit in the 1000 range. Will that hurt the sales i really doubt it will google, samsung sell phones in that price range everyday.....

I find the fact that no one has seen this UFO on a stick makes the end of year prediction unlikely. Not even a demo mock-up.
