myGarmin - Firmware Updates

I recently bought a nuvi 1300LM and I think for the price that I paid for it, it works pretty good.

As of last Wednesday, I wanted to go on-line and check for a new map update however there weren't any yet. LM means that I get lifetime maps.

What I did find were that there was firmware updates available and those were installed. Biggest tip about doing firmware updates is to follow the prompts on the screen. Do not touch the nuvi's power switch at all during the process since the nuvi will automatically reboot itself and install the firmware update. "Be patient."

The firmware updates were installed in 2 parts and when finished the screen will give you a GREEN and tell you that you're all set.

I wanted to ammend these remarks.
When I scanned the nuvi from inside myGarmin while connected via USB cable, myGarmin told me that I need a firmware update. I installed the 1st one. Rebooted OK.

myGarmin rescanned my nuvi and installed a 2nd firmware update, it was different and smaller as I recall. The FW installed and the nuvi rebooted.

When I went to myGarmin again, that's where the firmware update displayed a green checkmark and told me that there were no more updates.

You have to re-scan your nuvi after each update.

My Garmin 2610 doesn't ever have anymore firmware updates. And they quit making new maps for it in 2009.

But it still gets me where I want to go in the toad. If I don't pay any attention to it when it wants me to go the wrong out of the way.

I still use Co-Pilot 10 on the MH's 15" Laptop and it doesn't try to take me the wrong way like the Garmin does at times.

This one sold out.

Boy the price tanked on that thing didn't it? I think I got into the unit a few months ago at a ~ $139.00 ~ from TRS. Already been on the road with it in the MH.

I think when the new Rand McNally RV GPS hits the market prices for all the other GPS's will drop. It should be an interesting time.
