Need Static IP for Live TV Stream Service

At least that is what I think we need...
I run a Pepwave MaxTransit router with T Mobile Sim and football season is here... My husband is interested in some games and we do not get OTA here.
So, we signed up for Hulu+ but after their system rejecting our IP. Tech support says you MUST have a home IP address to get the Live TV streaming service(thinking static??)!!! They do not support mobile IPs??? I have now exceeded my ability level trying to figure out if it is possible to not show up as a mobile IP so we can stream some football this fall? Hoping someone out there has run into this and found a work around or it will be a very quite football season around here!!!!

It's been a long time since I had anything to do with assigning static IP addressed but I'm pretty sure that your home IP address is not static. That said, the providers most likely assign certain C-(CIDR) blocks to home and mobile services and that is probably what Hulu is looking for. I have no idea how to solve your problem other than maybe some VPN providers may be able to provide a static IP address. Sorry I couldn't be more help. There are others around here that are much more knowledgeable than I am. Hopefully one of them will chime in. Good luck.

I think it all comes down to content licensing.

You don't really need a static IP address, just one that makes you look like you're in your home area.

Content providers like Hulu etc block many VPNs because they try to prevent people from other countries watching content not intended for them.

People seem to have some success with some of the big VPNs like Express VPN and similar. I think it's a cat and mouse game between the VPNs and the content providers so there are no guarantees. It might work for a while until it doesn't.

Your home ISP might provide something. I haven't used anything like this but I think the likes of Comcast / Xfinity provide a means of logging in to your home account when you're on the road. There might be some possibility there but I'm not sure.

Probably not very practical but the really geeky way would be to setup your own VPN server at home. Connect via that and then you really would look as if you're at home. You'd need enough speed on your home line to make it work and you'd use twice the data transfer at home too.

As far as I know, it's not possible to get a Hulu Plus Live account using a cellular connection. That's one reason why we use YouTube TV.

Peplink Max Transit user here.
Pretty sure what you are encountering that is preventing a connection is referred to as Carrier Grade NAT. A majority of the cellular providers in the US have implemented it. In short, it's a way to minimize the number of IPV4 addresses in use at any given time.
There are work around's to get your football games. Some examples, see if T-Mobile will assign you a static IP address (not likley & probably very expensive), utilize some of the Peplink software to solve the addressing issue (technically challenging), change from HULU to something else like Sling or YouTube (most have trials so you can determine if it works) & there are probably other solutions.
Good luck!

I think what they're looking for is your facing up address. You can find this by going to the internet and typing www.whatismyipaddress.com

Youtube is a bit different. I "think" they will let you watch live network TV for a certain period of time when you are outside of your home area, but periodically need to connect from your home area.

What my sister has told me is they can always watch their recorded shows, but sometimes if they've been away from their home area for too long, it will stop letting them watch live TV.

Those that have used it on long trips or who are full timers, should be able to chime in on this.

As to your original post/question.

Since you are using a peplink transit, one option for you, which isn't completely simple, would be to get another peplink router to use as your home router (you can use them as a standard router and just don't put a sim card in it), and if you did, then you should be able to use Pepvpn to route all your traffic, or just hulu streams, through your home router, and to hulu, it would like you were connecting from your home IP.

Basically you build a VPN tunnel (virtual private network) and basically all internet traffic would go out your t-mobile sim, over a VPN tunnel to your home peplink router and then out to whatever site you are hitting, like Hulu. Yes, this does slow things down a bit, but likely not enough to be overly concerned about.

As Lemodrop alluded to a few posts above, it's not without challenges in setting up. Once setup, it should work (been meaning to do this myself, but haven't gotten around to it), but it will probably take some research and playing around to get it setup correctly.

Actually that is what we did with Hulu tech support and as soon as I read the IP they knew it was mobile and they wont stream live TV to a mobile IP address they said you need a "Home" IP. For us, we do not want a permanent service like Xfinity ect. so much for cord cutting

As above, you can try using a VPN with Hulu which would disguise your actual mobile IP. But of course many streaming services attempt to detect VPN use and block that as well. NordVPN has a feature called 'obfuscated server' which disguises VPN metadata and makes it difficult to detect VPN use by packet inspection, and along with a server that hasn't yet been blocked by IP this feature seems to work in getting past streaming blocks (or at least until the next round of whack-a-mole.)

For spoofing YouTube TV there is an Android app called 'Fake GPS' which allows you to override the phone's GPS results and manually set your location. This false location will be reported to all apps (even Google Maps is fooled.) In this way you can be 'home' when YouTube TV wants to do a verification.

Our last long stay of 3 months we lost YoutubeTV about the 60-day mark using Verizon hot spot. We had my son stop by the house turn on YouTubeTV and let run overnight and the YouTubeTV was happy for the rest of our stay.

PepVPN with Speedfusion is a freebie & just plain works. I use it for connections for my NAS boxes. I bought a used Balance Core One for the home office. Has 2 Ethernet WAN ports, 5 LAN ports & a USB port which allows you to plug in an Android phone.

My challenge is I use a SonicWall at home and when I tried PepVPN to a max mini behind the sonicwall they weren't connecting. I opened some ports, but clearly didn't get it right and haven't had a chance to finish troubleshooting.

It's low priority for me right now as I haven't been traveling much. I think if I was using a peplink router as my main firewall, it would be a piece of cake.
