New (?) / Revised AT&T Connected Car Plan

This might not be "new" news but the Connected Car, minus the Mobley, is back. Many newer cars are now coming with "hot spots" built in. This is the market they are targeting.

Still unlimited data (After 22GB, AT&T may temporarily slow data speeds if the network is busy).

Typical AT&T, finding the details of this plan online is next to impossible.
  • Do you still get a SIM card ?
  • Has anyone tried this SIM in other "hot spot" devices ?

I read all the fine print and put in my truck info. For my truck, I would get the Harman Spark which has been out for a good while now. I don't see anything new about the plan.

Sure glad I kept my old Mobley plan, the best $20 I've ever spent.

Wonder if it still has the "gotta be moving" restrictions..

It sounds about the same as the old plan. $20 per month plus the cost of the Harman Spark device. I wonder if the Spark will work powered from another source, like the old Mobley?

No it will not. According to the thread there the Spark looks for and is locked to the Cars VIN and will not work unless it is in the registered vehicle.

I have 2 of the original Mobley Plans and use one at our vacation house and another in the coach....both running with dedicated cell modems and external antennas......best $40 a month ($20x2) that I write a check for

Well ... Maybe !

According to this video, you can hook up the Spark to an AC adapter.

AT&T Harman Spark HSA-15UA-AA timeout bypass adapters | Use your Harman Spark outside your car!!!

If you check the PeraltaProducts website, they have a version that runs off of a standard USB charger so you can use it with a "USB power bank"

22 GB, after which data slows to 128 Kbps seems pretty reasonable for $20 per month. 22 GB is a lot of data, and while 128 Kbps won't stream movies, it will keep basic Internet services (email, Facebook, RV forums, etc.) going just fine.

IIRC, it only slows down if there is heavy traffic. Most TV/movie watching is in the evening so, theoretically, less traffic.

Well after some research I have answers !
  • YES, you get a SIM card but it is inside the device which must be disassembled.
  • YES, a few people have tried it and it seems to work !

I have not seen any slowdown (noticeable at least) during the 3 years that we have had 2 of these plans.

We routinely run 100+ GB in data and we till are seeing 20+Mb speeds in most areas and up to 90Mb in more populated areas when traveling.
