New vs. fixing/updating the old system?

At what point (age of system) is it time to start fresh?
I have an 8 year old "In motion" KVH system which is having problems. To my knowledge it has never had anything done to it. I am guessing it needs updated per what I have read in other post's. It has a power supply connector issue which I was told can't be repaired- the entire coax needs replaced. I was told by a service agent that by the time I update the "firmware" and fix the coax issue I am better off buying a complete new system. It is having issues holding Sat's- after wiring a couple of hours it loses the Sat and goes blank at which point I shut it off, wait a few hours then start it up again.
Do I sink money in this old system or am I better off buying a new system?
If advised to go with new do I go with the KVH RV1 or the Winegard in motion system?
Your input would be appreciated.

Thanks
Dennis

Sounds like it's time for new.

Do you have DISH or DirecTV?

Being a KVH owner and having personally experienced their lack of willingness to support their RV customers, I wonder why anyone would want one!

Ok, you justified getting a new Travler HD. You know you want one. When in doubt, throw it out.

Dennis, I put my in motion on Craigs list and sold it to a mobile rv satellite installer. Mine was in working order.

A power supply connection issue probably can be repaired but not cost effective to have done. A knowledgeable technician most likely can repair it and resell it.

Need more excuses. Tell your wife it is a lamp that needs replacing on the roof. Paint it like a flower and when it cranks up it blooms.

My wife is used to it. Now I just tell her "it followed me home". Her standard answer with a sigh, "yes dear".

Good for you -- you'll love the Travler as it gives you the option of installing any DISH setup in your RV.

With that in mind, during the install run all three RG6 cables (labelled "A", "B", and "C") from the Traveler into your RV. You may only need one of them initially, but you may need all three in the future. It's much easier to run all three during the install instead of later.
