Pepwave Surf Soho Question

How well does the Pepwave Surf SOHO do with Campground Wifi Login Splash/Redirect screen? I am considering getting one and would like some feedback from users.

I have used other products to pass the public Wifi Signal to my private RV network (Umbiqua Ethernet antenna / Cradlepoint Routers etc.) and have had difficulties with getting logged into public AP systems that use a redirect splash screen for log in. Some APs passed the log in to attached computer, some did not. There were a number of thinks I did to get or try to get logged into the troublesome networks (cloning IPs, connecting to the AP by IP address, etc). Some I could not attach to indirectly. (and they seem to keep getting more troublesome).

So those with the Pepwave (or have used the Pepwave), what has your experience been loggin into the open campground or public Access Points via the splash/redirect screens?

I have a new Surf SOHO and when I arrived at the campground it grabbed an open AP but would not pass any data. I hooked to the AP with my iPhone and the splash screen came up asking for the password. This was not part of the campgrounds WIFI so I just hooked to the campground and did not think any more about it. Until I read your post; so I hooked to it just now and did not have any indication of the splash screen on the browser or in the Surf's pages. I am running the latest firmware 6.2.2 build 1790. I went to the manual for the v.6.2.2 and even though it covers several different models they are all running the v.6.2.2. The manual states that it can be done by enabling the captive portal function in the Surf SOHO. That option is not in mine. I have written a question to Pep Wave about this and will respond once I hear back.

I corresponded with Pepwave about this and the response was that the captive portal was for setting up my own splash page and that once the Surf SOHO shows connected to the AP I should only have to open a new tab to get redirected to the APs splash page. It did not work for me when I tried. I would not discount the Surf SOHO though it's performance so far has been very good. There is also a head to head comparison between Surf, cradlepoint and WIFIRanger on YouTube; worth a look IMO.

I use a Pepwave BR1, which also doesn't log into the CG's splash page or simply pass the splash page to the client.

I just set the browser's home page to the IP of the splash page so the first thing I see when opening the browser is the splash page. I found that entering an url would sometimes cause a redirect to the splash page but not consistently.

As I stated in another thread I gave up on trying to login my new Pepwave surf Soho to filtered Internet sites. Confirmed with MIA folks that it won't do it and Pepwave isn't interested in addressing that. I scrapped it and ordered a WiFi Ranger package. I haven't installed it yet but will do so this week. Another side note, the Soho stopped connecting to my cellular modem shortly after arriving in our current location a week ago. I moved the modem to an older Cradlepoint router and it works fine. So much for Pepwave in my rig.
