dish to wifi
Since the coach we have has a dish on it and we don't subscribe can I convert the dish to a better wifi receiver? By removing the bulb and replacing it with a wifi adapter, running a usb cable to an indoor router would this provide as a good to better antenna? I know I would have to manually raise and adjust the antenna but I am thinking this would give good reception. What are your thoughts on this project?

People have done that as a dish is nothing more than a collector and focuses them to given bounce back a point. Here is a care of a directional antenna like a NanoStation facing the platter of the dish.

Is it possible to convert to 12v rather 120v?

The POE power injector has an output of 24V .5 amps. So I would not think so.

FYI - haven't done this myself. There are 12V to 24V DC to DC converters. You would have to figure out which one will match the power plug you want to use it on. If you figure out a simple solution please post the results for the rest of us.
Scan down this list to 24V output for some examples (note that power out is listed in the 1st column and all are for 12VDC input).
12V input DC/DC Converters, to convert voltage up or down, retail, wholesale, off-the-shelf and custom, DC/DC 5 watts to 1500 watts, voltage including outputs of 1.5V 1.5V, 3.3V, 5V, 6V, 8V, 9V, 14V, 15V, 16V, 18V, 19V, 20V, 21V, 2V, 24V, 28V, 36V, 4
Another other solution is to use a DC (12V) to AC (120VAC) converter found at any big box store. I would think this would be cheaper, but less power (battery usage) efficient. Should be OK for a couple house use during an overnight boondock in a parking lot.

NOTE: This is a POE injector and not just a "plug" to put in to the radio as power is sent over the ethernet cable. So you would then need a passive POE injector to use with it. Then you have the issue of not being able to plug in the AirGateway so you would need to use something else or patch it together somehow as it also needs the POE power.

Thanks All.
Normally 120v is fine when plugged into shore power but a pain when boondocking as I need to run the genny or use the inverter with an extension cord.

From this forum post on the Ubiquity site it may be possible.
If you search on the UBNT forums for POE Voltage there is more info.
If you google POE injector wiring you can find which wires in the bundle are used for data and which are used for power. you will have to cut and splice and make your own connecters. Pretty easy stuff. Some remote AP's are solar powered.

Most Ubiquity devices can be powered with 12 volt directly. It depends on: 1) how long the ethernet cable is, 2) the specific device.
As an example: I currently have a Bullet, a pico and a nano all powered by direct 12 volt.
WARNING: powering these devices with to low a voltage can cause flakey behaviour. But in "most" RV situations you can do so. Just don't call me if it does not work out for you.
