Photo "Resizing" - my problem

Never have quite figured out just how to do that. The resizing of a photo for use in certain things.

I am in the process of publishing a book on "Amazon" using their standard format. One of the processes is selecting one of their standard formats for the cover page of the book - and in this is an option to insert your own photo.

Therein is the problem. I do have one and when I insert it their format take the photo and cuts off a big part of it - resulting in a less than desirable cover shot.

I have tried the resizing of that photo many times - and they give a size of 4.4 wide by 3.86 high. I am simply unable to resize my photo (regardless of the various attempts) which will create the insertion of the whole photo onto that format.

Help!

God Bless

You may need to modify (Edit) the photo.

I would start by obtaining the needed format (IE: 800 pixles wide by 1600 tall or whatever, NOTE: I know that won't be it)

Then resize for the smaller number (IE 800 Pixels in the above)

now load it into the standard included with every copy of windows PAINT program (Start, Programs, Accessories, Paint)

Cllick on Image Attributes and change the other size to the other setting (in the case of the example this is 1600) now you will see a frame with a bunch of white space.

You can box the white space and color fill it, Draw in it or type in it.

Or just flat leave it

Save the photo in the new size, and give it a try.

Hi Bill.

I don't know if you are on a PC or a MAC, and the MAC has many different ways. However, here is the simplest solution I know of for view, resizing, and many other capabilities including producing photo pages for the WEB.

Irfanview

and it is free.

I have been using it on PC's for over 10 years. So long ago that I cannot remember the date that I first started using it.

Happy trails.

That is basically the answer. You need to load the photo into some software that allows you resize an image. Irfanview will do. Resize the photo and do a "Save As" and give it a different name or you will lose the original in its original size.

If you have Microsoft Office, I think Microsoft Office Picture Manager is the
easiest one to use for editing pictures.

Well - I have tried several and so far my results have been a far lower quality photo than I need.

This is an image of the photo I am trying to work with.

I used to own one of these, with other pieces, however a divorce resulted in loosing it all. I desire a good quality photo of one, however have been unable to come up with one.

Thoughts?

God Bless

I am guessing the photo is not tall enough..

As I said, download it, open it with PAINT and then open the Attributes (From the Image drop down) change the height to the needed height. This will put white space at the bottom of the photo. Then you can put text in the white space (or additional photos or draw or whatever) Once you have the proper aspect ratio you can re-size as needed.

It is not the size that is giving you fits, it is the aspect ratio (Height/Width)

A free program from Google called Picasa will do it also.

I have tried that Paint program and so far it has not worked very well.

One of the huge issues is figuring out the size -- they website gives the size required as 4.4 wide by 3.86 high.

For the life of me --- nothing I find correlates to those sizes......

Plus - the photo I desire to use is of a low quality and I am attempting to improve on that also

Wish me luck

God Bless

You stated the problem "Nothing I can find"

First use the resizer of your choice to set, The WIDTH, forget the height for now, Just set the width.

Then load it into PAINT,, On the drop down menu choose IMAGE then Attributes

Click on the button marked INCHES

You should now see that one of the numbers is the width desired (Assuming that was what you picked)

Change the othe one to the HEIGHT Amazon reqiures.

now re-save

Load it in picture viewer for your result.. As you can see there is now some "White space at the bottom of the photo. But this should make amazon happy.
Put your title text in the white space. Or if you have them you can pop in some smaller photos using copy and paste.

You must have an improved Paint program - I have none of the choices you are naming.
