Portable dishes walking off?

I was wondering how often portable satellite dishes are stollen? Anyone lose one, or know someone that has?

I see them sometimes locked to things via cable bike locks.

If boon docking, do you put them away before heading out for a day toad trip?

Thanks,
Smitty

I have cables and locks. Depending on the area and length of time I will be gone I would consider to pit it inside, but in a couple years have not felt the need to do so.

Haven't had a problem with it not being locked and hope it stays that way.

I've had DirecTV in the 5th wheel since 1996 and have never locked my portable dish when I used it and have yet to lock my VuQube. No problems so far.....

Now that I think about it, in all our camping and RVing days since ~1970, I can't remember ever having anything stolen from a campsite. I guess our stuff isn't worth stealing.

Thanks!

Understand that this is probably a Location Location Location situation! And a cable lock is inexpensive insurance to help nudge someone to move on...

We've only been RV'ing since 2006, and we too have never had anything disappear from our campsite. Depending upon 'Location' we will sometimes put some things away when going for day trips.

Appreciated the Dish Walk Off Not input,
Smitty

My response that I lock was assuming the OP was talking about a portable dish like a Tailgater. I also have a manual dish I use if set up for longer time. The manual dish I don't lock up.

I never locked the portable dish. A dish and stand cost about $100. However, with my Carryout I use a chain link about 40 feet long and padlock one end to the Carryout and the other end is anchored inside my electrical bay. I have never had anything stolen.

I am not worried about other RV'ers, but more so about the "drive through's" who are not camping in that CG.

Now, considering that nothing is secure, a drive through could just be casing the area out for a midnight acquisition. Coming back with cable/bolt cutters and nothing is secure. It just gives me piece of mind. And I can tell the insurance company "I tried."
