Problem with smart phone satellite locations

3-4 years ago I had a Satellite finder app on my phone that would show the positions of the satellites in the sky but also be showing any trees, hills, mountain tops, etc that would be in the way.
I have several apps (6) that shows the compass reading or the satellites in the sky but doesn't show what might be in the way. Have I lost an app or has it changed by not showing earthly objects?

you may be referring to the 'Dish For My RV' app ($). that uses your device's camera to show obstacles like trees and buildings while simultaneously using your device's GPS to superimpose the DISH Network sats on the screen. we use it all the time.

Thanks. What is the charge for this app? I probably don't use them 2-3 times a year.

We used the "Satfinder Lite" apt when we had Dish. It shows the satellites in the sky and you can see the trees and buildings that may block 1 or more satellites on you phone.

Think the App Store or? Has changed the name. Was DishForMyRV. Now I think its listed as Dish-My RV satellite finder and costs $5. It only finds the dish satellites, but the good news it works off the satellites themself so it is not dependent on a cellular or internet connection.

Satfinder lite

Satfinder Lite is a free app for you phone. You just program the satellites that you want to locate, point your front cell camera at the sky, and the satellites come in to view superimposed behind the trees, buildings or whatever might be in the way. Have used it all over the country for about 5 years and love it.

Use Winegard's free app.

It does satellites and TV stations.

SatFinder (free app) has worked well for me for many years for Dish Network.
1) Use Magnifier search to pick Sat 119.
2) Hit 3 dots in upper right and select AR.
3) Hold phone horizontally to look at the sky and pick open spot left and right for the other 2 Sat.
4) Repeat for Sat 110 and 129.

Never found any place to indicate which satellites are wanted on Satfinder Lite . Satellite AR is the only app I've found that asks for the specific satellite company desired, but it doesn't show any objects that might be obstructing the signal from satellite to dish.

I’ve been use SatFinder Lite for several years and really like it. You can chose what satellites to view by selecting “Sat List” at the very bottom of the screen, that will bring up a list of all the Satellites available to view. Put a check next to the stats you want displayed or remove the check for the ones you don’t want to see...easy peasy.

That might be an obstacle keeping some from using this free app but luckily the info is easy to obtain from the provider or through the menu function on the receiver.
