Question on Winegard Carryout Satellite Antenna

Our Winegard Carryout Satellite Antenna is set for Dish Network. We're finding that even when we have the satellite receiver off, the antenna still continues to hunt (find or align?) for satellites (or at least that's what it sounds like it's doing). Short of unplugging power to the antenna, is there a way to stop the antenna from doing that? Not finding anything about this in the owners' manual for either the antenna or receiver. Thanks! David

I have the same Antenna and I don't notice that it is doing that when it is turned off. The only time it should search for a signal is when the channel is changed and it needs the other satellite. I am going to assume that once it is locked on a signal, or no request to find a satellite, it would remain motionless. You should be able to call Winegard and get some information. Also, did you set the dip switches yourself, or someone else do it? You could check them. I'm not sure if that would be the problem if you are receiving signals. Just a thought. Don't know how these new sophisticated electronics work any more..

p.s., I purchased a converter to plug the Carryout into for operations. The converter is hooked to my Engine Heater switch inside the MH. So I do have the ability to kill the power when I don't need it. Most times I forget and just leave it on.

Even if the receiver is turned off but is still plugged in, it is receiving signals and doing everything it does when turned on.

If there are some programs scheduled to be recorded, the switching goes on unless the receiver is unplugged.

Thanks for both responses! I'll ensure we unplug the antenna if we leave for a day or two. We currently have the antenna setting on the top of a slide just so it's out of the way and less likely to be stepped on, driven over, or noticed. However, I can here it search. If it starts bothering us, I'll put it back on the ground. David
