Rand McNally RV GPS for iPad
I'm thinking of downloading this app from the App Store. Reviews are mixed on the App Store site. Has anyone here had any experience with this app? For $99 I would expect it to be perfect... Even pour my coffee...

i downloaded the app and as far as an RV gps unit I thinks it good. Not sure if it's any better then the rest of GPS for RV's but it has all the features, campsites, POI filters, fuel, bridge clearances, dumps etc. For the price of a Rally unit vs the app, I think you can't go wrong and it's on your iPhone our your iPad.

We've used it for 2 years and it's worked well for us. I have used a half dozen for tablets or laptops and I don't think any are perfect.

Well, it's not perfect, and it's not smart enough to know how to pour my coffee.
Having said that, it's our preferred app to use.

Well, don't let your expectations exceed reality. We have the RM app (2013 version and updated). We have the 2015 version installed in the coach. They sometimes disagree, but generally, with the use of google maps, and iPhone maps, we usually arrive at an agreed route. JMHO, RM is overhyped, but it is as good as some others, like Garmin. Certainly better at $99 on the iPad than $300+ to buy the module for your dash.

ALK Co-Pilot works for me. $14.99 and can use it both on my iPad & iPhone6 Plus with the same license.

Kinda hard not to consider the co pilot app. Reading descriptions doesn't help me determine why rand McNally is worth $85 more..

I retired from the worlds largest software manufacturer. Software is highly scalable and profitable. $99 for 3.5 gb of code should be perfect..never crash, never freeze, never glitch. There is room for a route to be off as it may not be a function of bad code, I get that, but it's features and robustness over that of a $15 app with 37 mb of code should be easily defined.

One difference I see is that the RM has a nice live weather map overlay. Very important for RVers.
CoPilot has weather but it's not integrated into live maps.

one thing you might consider is that the phone app, won't work where there is no phone service and a dedicated GPS will

We have the ipad 2 and have downloaded the rand McNally gps for rv. What do we do to get this gps to work? Do we need another form of connection?

I've experienced and been told of enough GPS data or logic errors that I don't see spending $99 for an RV GPS is a good use of money. A dedicated GPS stores it's maps and info in it's memory and works directly with the satellite signals. Does the iPad need to be connected to cell data to keep maps updated? How much of your data limit does it need? I use the GPS, but I'd never rely on it to steer me clear of low bridges, narrow roads, or weight limitations, which are the only reason to pay extra for an 'RV GPS.'
I updated the maps in my Garmin last week while in Atlanta. Seems that the update added features and changed settings not mentioned. As we started driving home to Cincinnati, the GPS kept trying to divert us from our known and often used route. Finally figured out traffic delays were causing it to plot alternate routes around the traffic. Problem is, the detours would have taken more miles and time than the traffic hold ups, so I finally turned the volume down. As I said, information and logic issues makes GPS interesting, but not something I'd risk my rooftop stuff on.

You may need to make your iPad GPS capable. There is a way ... look over this: http://www.emprum.com
I found mine for $85 on-line. The dongle plugs into the iPad charge port and you can then plug the charger into the rear of that. It all works great. We use it with the iPad on the right dashboard as a mapping follower program that has a speedometer accessory too.
