Rand McNally TripMaker new software?

Just got an email about a new trip building tool from RM for my GPS.

Caveat: I have just looked at it, but haven't tried it yet.

Rand McNally - TripMaker

Looks like you can build a trip online and download it to the RM GPSs as well as print or email the info.

Might be easier than doing it on the GPS... appears to support things like dragging on a street to change the route. Also can have POIs that are just within a certain mile range of the rout.

Anyone tried it yet?

I got the email as well. I tried it out but couldn't get it to recognize either my start point or end point on my next route. Without that, all that great stuff it's supposed to do isn't very useful.

Tried it, couldn't find our current RV Park. I have used the Good Sam Trip Planner with better results.

Yeah, I see what you mean. Had some time to try it out.

I did have success with using addresses, but the campground directory is somewhat limited; only found 3 out of 5 that I "searched" by name.

POI for route seems to work, but again is limited to their data.

Drag on route to change roads is nice, a feature I missed when using the GPS trip planner. Very easy to choose an alternate road.

Haven't tried downloading to GPS yet... requires setting up an account etc.

Will say that it does seem to be much easier to plan a trip this way than trying to do it on my 7710, but does need some polishing and a bigger campground directory.

Hi Folks,

I am happy to answer any questions regarding the Good Sam or TripMaker planning software.

Thanks.

RandMcSam,

Less of a question than a comment, I would repeat what I said above. The Search function in the software needs some work, either POI by city or a larger database.

On my 7710 I can enter a City and then find campgrounds in the area. In Tripmaker I didn't see a way to say "show me campgrounds around..." some city. Yet entering those campground in the Tripmaker Search function failed to show them in the pick list 2 out of 5 times that I tried. I would have to know the campground existed and enter it as an address.

So while everything worked (building a trip, downloading to my 7710, changing a route through drop-and drag etc) there needs to be more to let me find things I didn't know existed but might want to visit.

Just my opinion... I do appreciate that RM continues to enhance their products and provide new maps, construction info etc.

Thank you for sharing that feedback. I will submit a Field Issue ticket in our tracking system for this.
