Reverse search cellphone numbers?

Anybody know a way to get a name for an unknown cellphone number?

There are web sites that claim to do that but I suspect most are scams. I don't think it's public information. Phone books are almost a thing of the past and I don't think they had cellular numbers anyway.

Long ago before the internet I used reverse directories. You looked up the phone number and it gave you the name and address. Today there are web sites, where for a fee you can do the same thing. Alternatively you could contact a private investigator but that may be expensive. Or take a chance and call it and see who answers. Call from a public phone not your cell.

What's a public phone? Phone booths no longer exist in most places.

I have an account on Skype which I use to make some international phone calls. There's no caller id info on that so it's useful for calling a number anonymously. No need to find a "public phone".

I saw lots of those websites when I Googled a phone number. I suspect they just want my credit card number! I may be old but I'm not stupid!

I have my phone silence unknown callers. If the call is important they will leave a voice mail and I can decide if I want to respond. I don't miss answering a bunch of junk calls.

I JUST used it with my phone number
Gave me My Name, HER name and Company

I then entered my name---hundreds all over the USA ---had to filter it down to AZ
Gave me current address, plus a previous address from 2006
Gave me current landline & cell phone numbers
AND a whole bunch that I never had
Plus a bunch of people I have never heard of


SO.....
You can get some info FREE but some of it may be false
CAUTION on what you do with the info




But if it is an 'unknown' number you have nothing to enter so no info

When you say UNKNOWN is that what appears, or do you get a real # and want to reverse look it up.

Either way, doesn't really matter, spoofing is the norm now a days.

Few years ago we got a call, caller was complaining that he wanted us to stop calling him. I told him we never called, asked if he knew what spoofing was. No... Told him I would call back in a few min.

I went to the play store, downloaded a spoofing app then tried to call him back spoofing his own phone #. It failed, apparently his cell provided blocks that as I was asked for his password to his voice mail.

So I changed the spoof # to 1 # higher than his # and called him back.
He was surprised and educated that it can happen and how easy it was.

For months we would get call after call same NPA NNX as our cell but a different last 4 digits. All spam, eventually we just stopped answering.
Doesn't do any good to block as the next # will be a few digits off.

IMO the phone providers should be forced to stop spoofing.
ALSO forced to offer a service free......
If anyone receives a un-wanted phone call, you enter in a code #.
The caller is given a warning, the next time it happens the caller is charged $10 split 50/50 with the receiving phone subscriber and the receiving phone company or 33/33/33 to add in 1/3 for the receiving state PSC.

Waiting on phone call from county for 2nd COVID shot appointment so not doing that now.

I dont know how they get the numbers but all of the Car Warranty sales folks have my number. and wont give up calling
