RF Mogul vs Winegard

So, I want to replace my dome with a open dish. I am looking at the RF mogul and Winegard . (Dish models).

One of the resellers of RF Mogul says their advantage is:
"The wingard has a brain box built into the roof mount if it or one of the motors fail it must be taken off and sent to wingard to be repaired
The rfmogul has the brain inside only
The motors are field swappable by anyone "

Is this valid? After looking at the install procedure of the Winegard, it looks like removing it to get it fixed would be something of a nightmare.

On the other hand the RF Mogul is $6oo more than the Winegard. Do you think it would be worth it% If you have had a Winegard, have you needed it fixed?

What pricing are you using to compare? I saw the RF Mogul in Quartzsite. I think the list prices are about the same, but the Winegard is heavily discounted by some. I have a Motosat and RF Mogul are the Motorsat people who started a new company after selling Motosat. I am planning on installing a DirecTV dish and I am leaning towards the Winegard Traveler 3005.

Well, I am still debating between the Winegard SK-1000 and the RF Mogul RFM-3100. A couple other advantages the RF Mogul claims is that it is lighter and does not move from locked position in the wind. I have found a place to buy the RF Mogul that makes the price difference $500.

John, why are you leaning towards the Winegard Traveler 3005.

My decision is based on track record of the Winegard, available dealers and price. Although I have always liked Motosat products, RF Mogul is a new company with few dealers and no track record. I haven't run into anyone that wasn't happy with their Winegard Traveler. I tried to contact a couple of dealers by email, but got no response, if I didn't get a sales response I can only imagine what a trouble email would get.

FWIW, my Winegard SK3005 doesn't move from the locked position in any winds I have encountered and there have been some pretty healthy gusts in Quartzsite the last few years. Also here in CO this summer.

If you have problems with your Wineguard, you have to ship the complete unit. With the Mogul, it can be serviced to the component level without having to remove the unit.

The Wineguard weighs in at about 65 pounds, the Mogul at 36.

You paint a Wineguard that is still under warranty, the warranty is void. What they do is replace your complete unit with a rebuilt one. If you have painted yours, they cannot use it again.

If I already didn't have the Wineguard, I would go for the Mogul.

I'm not familiar with the RF but I couldn't be happier with my Winegard SK 3005.

Thanks for all the information.

In case anyone is looking. I did get quick email response from:
Dale Morris

Satellite TV for RV Washington | RV Satellite TV Arizona

He also seems to have the best price.

I don't understand the weight difference. The Winegard SK-1000 is 45 pounds and the RF Mogul RFM-3100 is 39 pounds (according to the specs). So the Winegard is heavier, but not that much. Am I missing something?

After looking at the assembly video for the RF Mogul, I think I'll stick with my winegard SK-3005.
