runnin' cable?

Hello All,

I just purchased a wifi booster antenna. Would rather not run the cable thru the window. On the roof of my DSDP is an unused CB antenna. My question, is it possible to tie on to it and use it to pull the new cable from the wifi booster into the coach. Or is it something better left to professional installers.

While it is possible, it's a pita. Also, you have to look at the impedance of the booster antenna cable and the line that's already in your unit. If they don't match, you'll loose signal strength.

Just drill another hole through your roof.

Use a small (3/4" or 1") hole saw. Drill one roof layer at a time so you don't snag anything. Then use a Winegard Cover Plate and lots of Dicor.

I highlighted "professional installers" because, well, "professional" and "RV" are an oxymoron.

Seriously, you could certainly pay someone to drill that hole, but from my experience, you would do a better job.

That CB antenna may be secured to some framing member or other cables along the way and impossible to remove. I would figure out from the inside the ideal location for the new cable to enter. Remove a speaker or light fixture that's close to that point and drill there or nearby, so as not to interfere with the replacement of the fixture. Snake the cable to its final destination. When Installing our SAT dish which required a precise rooftop location, I had to remove several ceiling fixtures to allow snaking the cable across the ceiling into an adjacent cabinet.
