Sat Dome Problem or Electrical Problem??

Happy Easter Everyone,

I have had some success setting up my Sat Dome and getting reception, but nothing is consistent. My coach is sitting stationary in the driveway and is plugged into shore power. I activated the DirectTV card and receiver. I turned on the Sat Dome (KVH in motion) and heard it whirring around and a picture popped up on the TV screen. Everything was working great, so I turned off Sat button because I knew that it did not have to find signal anymore. When I departed coach, I turned off receiver and TV.

The next day, I came into the coach and tried to turn on the TV. The receiver would not power up. I tried unplugging and replugging the device and eventually it powered up. I then got a picture...GREAT!!

Today, I went into coach and again, no power to the receiver. (The other devices plugged into nearby outlets are all working) I then unplugged and replugged receiver until it powered up. (I switched outlets around again...) But still no picture. I restarted SAT Dome and after three times whirring around. It finally found a picture...

I am confused...

1. Do I need to keep finding a satellite signal if I have not moved the coach? I thought that I only needed to re-find signal if I have moved around or am using it in-motion.

2. I hesitate to leave the receiver on all the time when we are not watching TV, because frankly I am stingy about electricy usage. But maybe I should leave it on to avoid this unplugging/plugging routine???

Please talk to me and give me some ideas...

Faith

Sometimes a Sat receiver will not come on instantly when the power switch is activated, give it a little time to see.

If nothing physically has changed then the signal should still be present each time you turn the system on.

From the sounds of it you have a defective receiver.

Sat Dome Problem

My DirecTV receiver and Winegard antenna operates essentially the same. For example, if I acquire the sat signal, and then turn the system OFF, and leave the coach connected to shore power, the next time I turn the TV on, it is locked on to the sat signal, and has a picture.

IF HOWEVER, I turn the system OFF and then unplug shore power, (removing power from the receiver) the next time I turn it on the dumb receiver doesn't see a sat signal. Then, I must turn the antenna on and it whirs and turns, and re-finds the signal and all is well.

I think this is normal, and my house system operates the same - when power is lost to the receiver, it must re-acquire the signal.

The difference is his sat receiver not only won't see the sat till it's reset,

It won't even turn on, he had to unplug and re-plug it

Oh to the O/P, when you unplug, keep it unplugged for one full minute, add a mnuite every time till it works.

Could the ignition interlock system be faulty? Mine went bad once and the TV was intermittent when parked. It turned off OK when the ignition was on.

Just a thought...
