I live in Nevada and started with the Tailgater. I had trouble getting Sat 129 with it. I changed to the Winegard Pathway X2 and have been very happy. the Pathway X2 dish diameter is much larger than the Tailgater. The signal strength on all 3 satellites is much stronger.

Yes, a reciever is needed with any of the antennas. Typically a Wally is used with Dish Network service.

I recently purchased a Winegard G3 Satellite and Wally from General RV at the Tampa RV Super Show.
I installed the system and activated with Dish.
That is when the problem started.
The Wally would not download the software or respond to any of the set up prompts.
I called Dish, Winegard, and General RV for assistance.
General RV said "Not our problem" .... wow!
Dish and Winegard were great and worked with me on the phone for 8 HOURS before the Wally would download the software.
The next time I turned on the system the same problem occurred.
I had put in a bad review on General and they replied wanting me to contact their Customer Care, I called and was told they "Sell" items, if there is a problem go to the manufacturer ..... wow again!!!!
Fast forward, Dish expedited a new Wally to me at no charge and it downloaded in 15 minutes.
I know problems can and will happen, but it is how a company handles the issue.
Kudos to Dish and Winegard ....... Thumbs down on General RV Tampa, FL

Got one

Just got a KING DTP4950 DISH Tailgater Pro Bundle - Premium Portable/Roof Mountable Satellite TV Antenna and DISH Wally HD Receiver on embay for
$276.37, tax, shipping and all. My winning bid was 221.50. So we shall see. Not an electronic Guru, so may have to come back if I have trouble setting it up. But a done deal. Amazon sells the rig with Wally and all for $449 .99. This one was used for six months, seller is 100% rated, so I hope (and pray) I did good.
Semper and thanks for all you help; Jim
