Satellite hook up Question
My 2008 DSDP 4354 Does not have the satellite. But I assummed they had the wire run up there to add a satellite later.. Today I went up and no plate or wire. It is wired to the reg antenna. If I put on a Satellite I won't need the antenna. Could I cut coax to the antena and use that wire for the antenna? My installer said he only needs one coax to run the satellite..You thoughts........VACMAN

Most folks do indeed keep the regular antenna
On my rig, per the manufacturer, there is supposed to be a sticker on the roof and teh Satellite cables can be found directly below it.
Per the installer.> Well, usually within six inches of it (so use a metal detector to be sure)
What the installer found on my rig was a "Stink Pipe" (Roof vent) which, given it's postion, made absolutly NO sense at all.. Sure enough when he removed the screw and pulled off the cover.. there were the wires

Actually, you WILL still need that antenna. Unless you remain in one fixed location you cannot get local TV programming and you will need you existing antenna to do this. When you install a satellite antenna you (or your installer) will just drill a small hole for the cable access and seal it up again. It's not really that big of a deal.

Hi VACMAN,
Have you called Newmar to determine if your coach was prewired for a satellite dish? Consider doing this first. My 05 was prewired as standard equipment. It is difficult for me to believe your 08 was not prewired. The plate covering the wires is not easy to find. When you call Newmar, see if they can tell you where the plate is. It may be best if you have the installer run all the cables to the A/V compartment the dish can handle. This way you can have one TV for each cable run to the A/V distribution box. Newmar should have run two cables.
Leave the off air antenna and cables alone. They have nothing to do with the satellite installation. And like previously posted, you will still need to off air antenna,,,,,guaranteed.

If your question is whether you can use the antenna coax for satellite you can but first make sure it is RG-6 and not RG-59. But the others offered valid reasons why you would want to keep the antenna as is.

K-star brings up another point.. In my rig, as I said, there was an oddly placed vent and the wires were hidden below it.
However..... The wires that DAMON installed were all RG-59 and lowest bidder at that, They are not even good at UHF television frequencies (Signal loss between the front and rear televisions is great) so by all means go with new RG-6 for the sat receiver.

I found the Sat Pre-wire. On top I found a 5 inch SS plate. If you get it the correct light you can see (SAT PRE-WIRE) Daaa, I guess that is where it is...Vacman
